So, the only camping I ever did was in the army. Never did it on my own. I know an m-4 ammo and promask arent nessasary, so what do I need. here is what I got.

tent
raft
fishing stuff
grill
sleeping stuff
Drinks (wink)
food

Help on anything else I should have would be greatly appreciated.

We have a standard list in my circle of mates. Have a go at this - obviously you only need one of some of these things between everyone so a bit of discussion beforehand helps so that not everyone brings an axe.

I actually have this on a spreadsheet with a weight calculation and you can put in your own weight to do a ratio too if you like.

PM me with your email addy if you'd like it.

Can/Bottle opener.

Whether its opening beers or baked beans you will need one.

Esky to fill with above mentioned beer

Ice to keep above mentioned beer cold

Bourbon. In case you run out of above mentioned beer.

Dont forget the usual blunt knife, bent fork, bucket with hole in the bottom & torch with near flat batteries.
Tomahawk for opening cans of beans cos you forgot the can opener.

Fuel for the chainsaw & lighting the fire.

As much water as you can carry. For drinking, washing, putting the fire out or washing the fuel from your eyes.

Just do a scan of the house & grab what you can. Half the fun of camping is forgetting stuff & being creative in the absence of proper equipment.

Just make sure you have bog roll & soap. If like me you dont wash for a week when in the mountains at, least keep you hands & food prep area clean.

Did I mention beer?

The first time you'll go you'll probably take too much. It's better that way than not bringing enough and realising you need stuff. Then each time you go, you tweak stuff and bring the numbers/weight down.

I'd recommend a sleeping bag instead of a blanket, you can get ultra-light ones now and a liner. Then you can wash the liner when you get back and keep the bag clean. Inflatable pillows and mattress are good for a bike as they roll up small.

Try to save weight and space where you can. I tend to just bring a days worth of food and beer along with me and then buy more the next day to save weight.

Enjoy.

And if you're taking the bike, then don't take it on wet mud. I flipped mine a couple of days ago doing about 2 mph and did a nice somersault.

what u need...
ponch and poncho liner
2, 1 qt canteens
1, 2 qt canteen
iodine tablets
multi tool "leatherman or gerber"
550 cord, or your type 3 nylon webbing if you were an "Air Assault" guy
IFAC "med kit"
E-tool
eye pro and gloves
lighter or magnesium stick

...this will get you started, haha

It also depends on your camping location. Will there be grizzly bears or some local monster that will abruptly end your fun camping trip? You might want to bring some defensive weapons. You being a military guy, it might be somewhat easier to find appropriate ordanance!

I like to keep camping simple.....here what I would bring... :D find your spirit guide dude! LMAO [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBU_GEYyb5k[/ame]
