hazards not working

Hi, HELP!

I have just fit some aftermarket indicators to my '06 fazer.

The indicators are working fine but when i try the hazards they light very briefly as i push the button and then thats it (they dont flash).

I have disconected the front two indicators and the hazards worked on the rear.
I then disconnected the rear two indicators and the hazards worked on the front.

But the hazards will not work if all 4 re connected.

I had to make some short extensions for the rear indicators because the wire supplied was too short.
The cable is rated @ 17amp, could this be the problem.

They are not LED indicators, the bulbs are 12V, 23W.

Any ideas?

What kind of aftermarket stuff did you use?

If they are LEDs then you either need to put some resistors in-line or change the flasher relay.

Just mini indicators (not LED).
Although I will have to confirm the Amp ratings.

I know that this is an OLD post and was wondering if you had found a solution to this? I have exactly the same problem as you with my 23w indicators!

hey I'm new to this forum but I did the same thing and had to change the globes from 23w to 10w and they worked fine, seems that the higher watts won't work if you have all 4 lights flashing

Yeah thanks. I worked that out yesterday after a contact burnt out and I lost all my indicators! The garage pointed out that the stock bulb was 10 watts and I thought it was 21 watts for some reason! :ban:

I bought some bulbs to replace them tomorrow. I wish I'd realised that earlier actually as 10w bulbs are much easier to find than 23w!

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the draw that the higher wattage bulbs require and the flasher unit. In a similar vein, putting lower draw signals cause the flasher to operate faster. It wouldn't surprise me if the higher current draw would cuase them to flash much slower or even not at all.
I would suppose this is why the brighter bulbs won't work with the hazards. There are plenty of LED flashers that use a different method to generate the flash rate and I'm sure they would work with a higher draw as well as a lower one. Here's one

Super Bright LEDs has plenty of direct application 12VDC LED bulbs specific for automotive applications and some even have built in resistors so they function just like as standard bulb.

Surprisingly, they didn't flash any slower than the stockers but were obviously drawing too much power than the system could handle.
