I have an 06 FZ1 with about 4000k on it. I ride a few times a week, mostly commuting. I've changed the oil twice since I bought it new in 2006, and cleaner and lubed the chain every few months, but other than that I haven't really done anything to it. I realized the other day that I've never even checked the air pressure in the tires or added air!

Is there a basic list of things that I should be changing/checking? Maybe I'm just being a bit naive but everything works the same as it did the day I left the showroom. I'm a DIY guy with my truck so it just makes me nervous. Are the FZ6's just that well built that they don't require a much attention?

Thanks.

Did you get an owners handbook with the bike?

You've never checked the tyre pressures in 4 years? Maybe you should - it will go round corners so much better.

Check that tire pressure ASAP! Even perfect tires fitted to perfect rims will lose some air pressure every month. It isn't much loss, but compounded over several years, it can really add up.

I wouldn't be surprised to see your tire pressure in the low 20's to upper teens.

It's a good idea to check your air pressure at least once per month. The time spent is well worth your life.

Tire pressure should be at least a monthly safety check. That's so fundamental I can't consider it maintenance.

Flush the brake lines and replace all the brake fluid. (I'd consider this a 'must do'.) That should be an annual event, regardless of mileage. The fluid will suck moisture out of the air and go 'off'.

Replace the fork oil. (you'll see noticeable improvement)

You're probably due to flush the engine coolant as well. (just a very good idea)

It would be good to inspect the air filter.

Just wanted to say thanks. I have an FZ6, sorry for the confusion. I went out this week with a tire pressure gauge...I had 16 lbs in the front and 23 in the back. Luckily my stupidity didn't kill me this time!
