FZ6 vs. Triumph Street Triple R

No real contest man. Buy the Triumph. I love my FZ but have actual drooling fits over the Triumph.

radial brakes, upside down forks, adjustable suspension, better lights, better bike all around.

Sorry to say it but the FZ loses to the Street R.

i can see guys having interest in the triumphs, but the buells? (since ive seen ppl on here switched) u cant tell me they're a better all around bike (except the 1125r). ive read many reviews and worked at a harley shop, dont care much for em. even the xb12 is slower then the fz!

If you have the money go for the Triple R, it will have to be new the R just came out. You get what you pay for, take this into account.

The the triple will be prob be around 9 - 10k OTD. FZ6, 7k ish. Get what you can afford. Both are great bikes.

Wrong thread bro But yeah, the FZ6 is indeed faster than the XB in top speed, by about 10mph. For everything else you talk about though, read the specs again, because you've got things reversed. The XB12 has superior overall performance package. Then of course the FZ has that awesome liquid cooled I4 engine, which is really amazing... but imo, when it comes to the motor, its really a matter of preference. I personally prefer the I4 for the track (where you can actually use it to its full potential), and the good old vtwin for the streets, where the torque (which btw is twice the FZ6's) makes for a very enjoyable experience in any gear, at any speed

But as you hinted, to each his own, and I agree with the previous poster too, you get what you pay for (most of the time) :rockon:

Or just get a triple for good torque and good top end... sucker!

well i threw it out there instead of starting a thread on it, and i missed out on the threads where people switched so... thats just me. i dont think the buell is inferior in every way, just dont think id enjoy a hopped up sportster engine in a sport bike. anyway back on the triumph... i saw one at a bike night in green, it is sharp for sure:thumbup:

Thanks to everyone for their input. I think i will have to go with the FZ6 if it doesn't feel as cramped as I initially thought when I sat on it this weekend.

It has the touring capability that I would like.

Anyone else out there around my height (6"3-6"4) find the FZ cramped in the legroom department?

I am 6"7 and it is really not a big problem for me. Of cause it is not perfect - but even in long rides it is ok.

Yeah I mean from the dealers I have spoken with (Toronto, Canada) I can totally justify the extra cost of the STR. The guy at the Triumph dealership (which is inside a lamborghini dealership) said just under $13,000 OTD for the STR. Whereas with a brand new FZ I have been quoted $10,500-$11,000 OTD. The $2000 grand difference seems like peanuts to me for the difference in the bikes.

I wish I didn't have a girlfriend that wants to ride on the back with me. lol j/k

If I buy and FZ6 and set her up fully with gear, that $2,000 price differnce closes really quick.

It definitely is the best out there right now. However, as much as I am dying to have it, I do not think it is practical at this time. I need something that is decent for 2-up touring with the lady friend. I figure I can always buy the STR in another couple of years.

Try Sturgess Cycle in Hamilton... That's where I bought my '08 Tiger with hard luggage included for $12,800 OTD.... They had a Street triple on the floor (don't know which model) when I was there yesterday...

i agree you could get the fz now and enjoy a great bike and with the money saved buy some nice gear for the both of you and mayby some other things for it, and in a couple of years get the street triple ( i would get the speed , but then again i have a 1050 tiger and i am bias for the 1050 triple) for solo fun.


and if your lady is like mine i had to basicly abandon the fz to her , thus the reason i got the tiger, i am taller and i like the room and power of the big kitty.

The triple is a great sounding engine. Quality is top notch, fit and finish are superior to that of the Yamaha. I love the bike (have just over 2000 kms on it)... As good as the FZ6 is, IMHO the Tiger is superior (except possibly in hard core racing) in all areas.

Notes on the belly pan and wind screen. The wind screen does nothing in terms of wind protection, purely cosmetic. The belly pan actually sits TOO close to the heads and has paint melting off of it on several bikes. I did not opt for the belly pan since I think it looks silly, but I did buy the wind screen in hopes of wind protection. Will probably take it off and sell it soon, looks better without it as a true naked bike.

You may want to leave that windscreen on. I just looked up how much the guage cluster is... $1200!!! I was just reading about wind screens for the Street/Speed Triple, and one guy said that if it wasn't for his windscreen, a rock would have taken out his guages! Instead it took a chunk out of the wind screen. They mentioned that they are VERY expensive, so I looked it up.
