Any advantage to getting an FZ1 over an FZ6? I don't race nor do I ever intend to.

Much easier to get tickets on a FZ1.

If I were looking at a bigger hp bike standard bike I would look real hard at the Suzuki Bandit 1250 ABS

ABS is a very good thing.

don't really need more HP. the FZ6 has what... 90 something? on a bike?

My saturn has 140 and it is perfectly serviceable despite having a 2000lbs car to haul around!

maybe more torque, at most, and I consider comfort a top priority.

FZ1 - Better power, suspension, brakes and pretty much anything else you can think of component wise.

FZ6 - Better gas mileage, bit more fun around town, easier for low speed stuff

I've had the pleasure of owning a 6 and the dad having the 1, so I have experience on both. The 1 is a beast. If you have never ridden a powerful bike, say 120hp or more, be careful as the FZ1 will do 135km/h in first gear. For two up, or if you want a bit more torque, go for the FZ1. I chose the 6 for it's cheaper purchase price, insurance and I don't need an FZ1 yet just because I would kill myself.

Then it sounds like no FZ1 for me. I don't need any of that. Sounds good, FZ6 is cheaper and will save me cash.

Sit on a FZ and then a Bandit. Which feels better for you?
I think the FZ1 has a much smaller (less padding) seat and is more forward (sportbike) handlebars which means less comfort all day long.
Torque is a better number to look at. The FZ6 may have 85 hp but you have to ring it's neck to get it due to 40 some #'s of torque.
My FJR has 145hp(love it) and close to 90#'s of torque so all I have to do is roll on the throttle a bit to go.
Bottom line for me is the FJR is for long distance (3-600 miles a day) but when it comes to having a fun flickable bike for local day rides ( live and ride in the Mountains) I prefer the FZ6.
If I had to only have one bike to do double duty I would look at the Bandit or perhaps a V Strom due to better wind protection on long rides.
Really miss not having ABS on the 6, sucks they have it in Europe but not here.
What kind of riding do you do?

if you dont care for more power or alot more after market parts then get the fz6. i like haveing to option of chose from tons of new style full-exhaust and other after market parts. but if you dont care for that stuff then go for the fz6 its way cheaper in the long run.

I test rode the FZ1 before getting the FZ6.

The only reason I didn't get the 1 is it wouldn't fit down the passage between our house and next door.

The 1 has loads of grunt, I don't think I got out of 3rd much, it just did everything from that gear :D . Was a lovely bike to ride, better than the 6 (very slightly) but not worth losing sleep over.

For me the insurance on the 1 was cheaper than the 6  but then I get a years road tax on the 6 for about the same as 6 months on the 1, and no doubt the fuel economy is better on the 6

The FZ6 won for me for the following reasons, much cheaper to register, insure. Near on 100 ponie is plenty enough for everyday riding...although i still hanker for an FZ1 from time to time, as it is much more sports orientated, with higher spec suspenders, etc.

just my 2 cents.

I also looked at the FZ1 after selling my '05 FZ6. Insurance for me wasn't a whole lot more. What made me go get the '08 FZ6? I determined it was all the bike I needed and goes from zero to ticket just as easily, perhaps more so, because the FZ1 will lift or break traction where the FZ6 just hooks up and pulls off the line. I'd still like a liter bike but perhaps in a different style. Maybe even bigger, like a Raider? ;) But, it would be an addition to the stable, never a replacement for my fizzer!

the fz6 and fz1 both are great bikes. after siting on the fz1 it wasnt as comfy as my fz6, but the fz1 seat was way better. it has tons of power and better parts, but if i do get a 1000cc bike i am just going to spend the extra 2k and get a r1. the r1 was made to handle better for all of that power and has way more techonigly then the fz1. once i sat on the new r1 i fell in love i was like it was molded for my body, and it wasnt to lean forward to me very comfy for my body, the tank has dents on the sides that ur legs just fit around like a glove .. but insurance was off the charts, the fz1 was even cheaper then the r6 insurance. but i have only hade my linceses for 8 months now. so once i get 3 or so years it wont be as bad.
