FZ6 US Pony Express

So I sat down today just to take a look at what route I was going to travel on to head up to Fort Kent here in Maine to start the bag off when something interesting occurred to me. I figured I would pose this question to those involved.

West Quoddy Head is the easternmost point on the U.S. mainland and closest to Africa. Would we prefer to have the bag start its journey at the point farthest east? Or does Fort Kent (the most northern part of Maine, although not in the US) sound better to everyone?

Or does nobody really care one way or the other? hah. :D I personally *love* the ride to Lubec and West Quoddy.

Incidentally I also found out that Ozette, Washington is the westernmost town in the 48 contiguous states, Cape Sable, Florida is the southernmost point on the U.S. mainland and Northwest Angle in Lake of the Woods, Minnesota is the northernmost point in the 48 contiguous states. Just more useless information nobody ever knew they needed to know.

Having the trip start at West Quoddy Head Light sounds like a perfect setting - this place sits on the Eastern-most point of Maine and the Continental United States.

There is a famous candy-cane like lighthouse in West Quoddy. Getting a picture of you w/ the FZ6 and the bag would make a "Kodak" moment. I have heard that lighthouse preservation is very strong in Maine, as evidenced by the large number of local preservation societies and trusts.

I've already decided to get photos in front of

1) Santa Monica Pier
2) Perhaps something with the Hollywood sign behind it if not already done
3) The FAMOUS Rock Store on Mulholland
maybe Newcomb's Ranch as it's not too far out of the way...
4) The Mission in Santa Barbara
5) Perhaps East Camino Cielo Road overlooking all of SB County on the ocean side
6) Cold Springs Tavern off of Highway 154 in Santa Barbara (biker pit stop)
7) and naturally...Freeb!rds mexican food joint in Isla Vista.

Now to figure out how to try and raise money for the charity of choice...without looking like a con man on a moto

Well, since I'm starting this off I'll go ahead and post up the dates/route I'm taking now :D My trip will be broken into two parts since I'm aligning it with the beginning of my cross-country trip.

The first leg of the journey will have me riding from southwest harbor to Lubec Maine most likely on May 3rd. I will then be taking the bag from southwest harbor, maine to Scotia NY on May 15th. The bag will be passed to Have2BeFree on May 16th.

This is the route I will be traveling, and having done it several time it is quite beautiful! from:Boot Cove Rd to:44.394542,-70.914001 to:Rotary Row - Google Maps

I'm in PA, about an hour and a half - 2 hours away from New York. If the sac is passing my direction, I'd gladly take part. Message me if a PA rider is needed.

I don't know how far it will have moved by the beginning of June, and I know there were a lot of other volunteers in the area, but I am riding from South of DC to the dragon meet. My current route has me going through NC into TN. Let me know if you need it to travel this route at this time.

I am passing the bag off to ant_mb somewhere in PA on the 23rd. I will let you know where, what time approximately (when he lets me know) and if it's going your way and/or if you want ride with me for a bit.

Is there a order of succession here? It seems we have a lot of volunteers, but no clear order of who will be delivering it to who and where. I say we should come up with a clear plan on who is taking it where and to whom. The dates can change, but then at least we would know who has it now, and who gets it next. Then that person can get with the next person and they can decise where to meet and what date. As of now I have no idea who I am hanging it off too, and didn't even know I was the third rider until a pm a few days ago. I think we need a little structure to the rider order. I can go over the riders and who has what and come up with a order if you would like.

I thought there was a slight indication earlier in the thread about the order and who covers what...right?

The next hand off is going to be someone on the list below in the next few states south of Maine. Just PM the next pony rider like Have2BeFree or chuckfz6ryder.

This is all I could find. How about if we just post here who we plan to hand off too and then if others are in the area they can just pm and ask to join in. Maybe I'm just over thinking it.

I wish I had coem across this thread earlier this is a great idea If you need a socal rider let me know I know my housemate marinafazer is interested

Dude, just ride with me. It'll be easier to take photos and give a wee more credibility if we hit the Rockstore with a bunch of people. My plan is to announce it to the SoCal Sport Bikers group to get a large group of us to ride with the bag...and at least get $5 from Ride Nighters maybe...all for good!

if you look back, I posted where it'll be going and it would be great roads for you to come with! It'll be awesome to get Paul to take our riding photos while doing an awesome turn with the bag clearly visible!

This would be off the charts. I'm in for souther Mississippi to Louisana down on the Gulf Coast. On second thought, since I'm leaving and going to VA/DC next month maybe I better chime in on the VA/DC side.

Right now ant and I are trying to coordinate because I think he gets the bag on the 23rd and on June 3rd I am travelling from VA to deals gap. There seems to be a gap between VA and points south. ant is near philly and i am in woodbridge va... we were tentaively planning on meeting in gettysburg but I don't mind if someone else works out a meet with ant someplace else but we would like to have it in my hands so it can travel to the dragon on the 3rd. If someone like say wildcard wants to work something out then that is cool but it needs to be in my hands by June 3rd so I can move it south to TN.

So if someone wants to quickly work out a meet with ant that works for him and then a meet with me that is fine. If plans fall through then I will meet with ant in gettysburg on the 24th.

OK so we're looking for someone between Philly and DC. If not then Gettysburg it is. Whoever it is has to be available on the 24th though.
