Hey,

Done to death but im finding a lot of different and conflicting answers!

I have a UK 2008 FZ6 s2. I have been offered a set of round scorpions and a decat pipe. My understanding is that with my bike being a 08 it has a O2 sensor and disconnecting the battery after installing will enable the bike to relearn the mixture. Does this sound right or will i need to tune the bike on a dyno?

Regards

yes, short-turm and long-turm fuel trim maps will adjust. In fact, it will adjust regardless if you disconnect a battery or not. The adjustment might be quicker if you disconnect the battery though, I'm not sure.

I know this isn't greatly related to your question, but do you know if the de-cat pipe fits with the standard exhaust?

Yes,an arrow decat will fits standard stock pipe provided you choose the right year for your FZ6.The decat is slightly longer on a for 2007 onward model.

In other words, your cans will poke out a bit more at the back end. Not a problem IMO, but just be aware 'cos some peeps don't like it.

Well fitted the decat and cans on Sat, holy mother of god its loud without the baffles. Surely this is illegal? It sounds so nice as well! Put baffles in for now but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good.

All seems to work well, just doesn't idle as steady as before. This was with baffles out, it seems there isn't enough back pressure as when i put hand over exhaust idle was rock steady. Will test idle with the baffles in next time we get some good weather!

If you put the cat back in, it'll probably idle fine and quiet it down some. My 07 doesn't have baffles, but does have the cat. Its loud but not real bad until you get hard on it...

Mine idles fine with no other mods, BTW I keep the idle at 1000, not 1300, sounds better...

The bike was ice cold when i tested it, was idling just under 2k i think? Not checked since riding with baffles in. Not sure I can be bothered to strip it all down again so for the time being it will have to stay cat-less!

You will have to get ur injection retuned m8. It will not remap for itself, only the lambda's will give ur ecu other readings and this will lead to your mixture being made a bit richer... thats why you think your bike has more power but this is only the mixture being a bit too rich! Lucky for you, the ecu will only make the mixture richer within the value's of ur mapping, so it wil not really damage your engine, it only makes it a bit dirty... For good results you have to dyno the bike, and let a pro change the mapping value's so the ecu has an other response to the lambda readings... if you mixture is always going to be slightly rich, your bike will respond better, but little partikels (soot) will stick on top of your piston, and can begin to stick on the valve's or spark plugs as the result of changed combustion, so in time your engine will perform less, and it will deff. live shorter... also you're slip on will get verry dirty cause the part's wont be blocked by the cat!

Not true,

If the o2 sensor is upstream of the cat, nothing that is changed downstream of the sensor will make any difference to the fuelling of the bike.

i have both on my bike granted it's an '06 but i have not put a pcIII on it and it runs great... a little choppy on idle but no more than a 1000 rpm difference between jump at idle... throttle is maybe a little more on/off than if it was tuned but who wants to spend 350$ to smooth a throttle response i am used to now...
