Fz6 Rear Shock Replacement

Goodmorning I hope I find everyone good!

Been meaning to ask after reading a few older posts has anyone tried the 2015 R1 Rear shock absorber
on the FZ6?

I have been riding mostly with a backpack and rebuilded my rear shock twice now but it seems to not withstand the weight.

Any information is welcome

You may need to simply respring your existing shock. Use the spring rate calculator on the RaceTech.com website….i find that calculator to be 100% accurate.

There is a lot to consider when modifying a shock for use on the FZ. Eye-to-eye distance, stroke length, mounting points, valving and spring rate all have to be correct…or made correct.

I don't know your weight, but the stock spring is good for people who weight around 160 pounds (72kg). If that's not you....then you'd be surprised how a properly sprung bike makes a difference. With that said, the OEM shock is an emulsion shock, also known as "cheap garbage". A shock upgrade REALLY makes a difference in ride comfort (eliminates the harness). Aftermarket shocks aren't cheap...but they work. Modifying another shock to work isn't easy...and the results can be just as disapointing as the OEM shock.

Many years ago I modified a ZX6 shock to work on my SV650S. Making it fit was easy....getting the valving right was a pain in the ass. I must of had that shock off 6 or more times to rebuild the shim stack...I got it close...but I was never really happy with it.

I weigh 100kg with gear, after hours of researching what seems to make more sense is to have this guy that repaired it for me previously customize it, I don't want to spend 800€ on a bike i got for 1500€ I love my bike but yeah... I need to talk with this guy and see what he thinks about this.

I just modified and installed a $100 Ebay 2015+ R1 shock. It is a night and day improvement. I was able to use the Stock FZ6 spring, and modify the shock to match the stock FZ6 height. You can see my shock detailed install on reddit here:
