While I agree with the author's theme, that the '6 is the perfect middleweight bike with a middleweight price to match, I disagree with a few of his points:

-saddlebag-roasting mufflers? I can safely put my hands on the muffler (covers) immediately after a long high speed run. Never had an issue with the exhaust damaging my soft saddlebags.
-seat "comfy enough to drain the 5.1 gallon tank at a single sitting". Uh, no. Terrible seat! Mine's been Spencerfied and now is much better, but the stocker had me squirming after an hour.

Nice to see the FZ6 is still getting attention. I think under the "Cheers" section, the author should have listed "Most Awesome-est online forum" for sure!

Yeah, I read that. I don't think the author ever rode an FZ6! The mufflers are maybe the very best feature with no draw backs and certainly never get hot enough to burn hands or any thing else for that matter! Somebody ought to point that out to the magazine.

I actually find the seat fine. I spend two hours a day in it, four out of every 8 days, and I have done the entire tank in one sitting (and then filled up and carried on home), and it's comfortable enough to be unnoticeable: which is kind of the point I guess? Not like the Hornets they had at bike school, that between a combination of low seat height, high peg height, poor saddle and wide rear end of the tank, left me with hip cramp and monkey but after only half an hour of riding.

Is it common for underseat exhausts to not be properly shrouded? I posted a pic on FB of the test fit of my new soft luggage, and got the same reaction from several biker mates.

I actually find the seat fine.

Not all arses are alike; I believe mine is more of the bony type and needs more cushioning. Spencer's space age materials worked wonders.

The rider's weight is a factor too; another factor not in my favor, as I could stand to drop 20-30 lbs. It's a common theme among most FZ6 owners to upgrade the seat in some fashion due to it's poor shape/padding/etc. But obviously it suits you well, so it's good for some folks!

I had the same reaction, but i think there are two issues there:
a) if you have an fz6, it's likely NOT a bone stock (oh, look the fz1 bars are better!)
b) if you do have a bone stock fz6, it can fetch more BECAUSE it's a rare thing

so i'm guessing the prices they have are some sort of synthetic prices, may be calculated in comparison with similar bikes that are not as likely to be modified :Flip:

UPDATE: not to mention the geographical differences. I bought my 2004 in 2010 for just under $3k (that was a steal tho)

Interesting. I thought they were high!
I paid $3K for my '05 two years ago, 9K miles. Article states $3120 for an '05 today. Although we know that the prices are very geographically influenced.

Those are the current kbb.com retail values. Their 2007 price is a typo -- should be $3785. They seem in line with what I've seen on Craigslist and CycleTrader recently.

Was chasing down a different article and came across a great "Smart Buy" piece on the FZ6. Always nice to see the bike getting the attention that it deserves; even is it is 5-years post production!

I don't think the guy ever rode one. I also take issue with his assertion the pipes are a problem with soft luggage due to heat. Malarkey.

just combined these 2 posts, a good article but the mufflers are cool due to the stock plastic shrouds, and on my 2007 model i don't have a problem with the abrupt throttle response.
