FZ6 brake lever Q/brakes in general

Hi there,
I just lost a fight with Renault Clio 2 hours ago and I need to order some spare parts ASAP.

1, There is a chap on ebay offering genuine brake lever for 40 pounds, what is a great price around here. Blah Blah Blah... Is the brake lever the same for 2004+ and 2007+ versions?

2, I crashed on my right side and my brake lever bent outwards - not damaging the master cylinder, or at least I think so. But, that maniac hit my front left calliper and the brake disc. After that, I couldn't press the lever at all. I've just disassembled almost whole front of the bike and taken out the whole brake circuit(hoses+cylinder+callipers) intact. Now, I can push the lever without any problems. I don't understand it, as nothing have changed. Any ideas? thanks.

Per Babbits, Arctic Cat,Polaris,Suzuki,Kawasaki,Honda,Yamaha,Sea-doo,Can-Am dealer Muskegon, Michigan , the part #'s for the 07 and 04 front brake lever is the same.

Knowing the brake lever is damaged I'd be looking real close at that. It may have jambed partially in, applying the front brakes...

I would check run out on the front disk (less than .10 MM) as well as axle runout and the front wheel itself for straightness at least for safety reasons.

Do a visual of the brake caliper on the fork leg and make sure its not bent / cracked and looks centered to the disc (the disc should be about dead center to the caliper).

Just put the bike on the center stand and block the front wheel off the ground (I use a sizzor jack under the header, it doesn't take much to physically lift the front end). Turn the handle bars to the right stop and spin the front wheel. If the brakes are dragging a bit, just push the brake pads in slightly to get any grag off the discs and it'll spin very easily.

You should be able to see if the wheel or the brake disc wobbles (bent) .

You can also clamp a cut down wire coat hanger, clean the end so its NOT SHARP, then clamp it to a stool or other short object. Adjust the end of the hanger right next (roughly .005" or closer) to the wheel and disc and spin it again.

Watch the space inbetween the hanger edge and the wheel/disc. You shouldn't see and gaps if true and the space should be the same.

If the wheel has some movement, I'd pull the axle and check that for trueness. (Its not likely its bent). I'd check it before buying a new front wheel if the front wheel is not true...

BTW, a previous poster sometime ago bought an aftermarket chinese knock off brake lever. It was not machined properly and would not release the master cylinder fully, eventually locking up the front wheel. He was able to fix the lever, just make sure the piston rod in the master cylinder is releasing (coming back out fully).
