So, in the FZ family there's a:
-6: four-cylinder,
-7: parallel twin, and
-9: triple.

There's a term for such a marketing clusterphaahrt, but I can't remember it...

Could be like the other big jap companies.

You really shouldn't count discontinued models. If so revert back to the older fazers as well.

In my opinion, Yamaha has gotten it wrong ever since they have discontinued the FZ6, and has been trying to fix that mistake ever since. Wouldn't be all surprised that that FZ6 makes a comeback within the next few years.

The FZ7 looks no different than those Electric Bikes called the Zero.

This was exactly my thinking as well. I love the Zero though. If they dropped the price by half it would be the ultimate commuter bike. Still too expensive for now IMHO.

As for the FZ-07 it looks interesting, but I have never ridden a twin I have liked, Inline or V. I would still gladly give a test ride though. Something I have learned is that no motorcycle can be accurately represented on paper, there is a special quality unique to each and it is immeasurable. You just have to get out and ride them all! :D

It is the only way to find what you really enjoy riding.

It should absolutely get good fuel economy. My 1635cc Victory Cruiser gets 49 mpg all day long and has got as high as 54 mpg at 45-55 mph and it weighs 670 lbs!

Re: Total Agreement!

I personally don't see the FZ6 ever coming back. It will just become a fond memory along with the first CB750, RD400 and Interceptor 500. High revving 600's will rule the the tracks and squid bars but I don't see it as a standard street ride anymore. High torque super light and inexpensive bikes like the 07and 09 will rule the standard market... for the near future anyway.

You know they're not actually in the same family right?

In one you get:

125cc single
650cc twin
850cc triple

In the other you get:
600 I4
800 I4
1000 I4

If the fz07 take off like the 09 did I don't see the point of keeping the 6R on the shelve that much longer IMO.

More HP, **** load more torque and about 60 lbs lighter. Everything the FZ6R should have been at first place!

I can see the 07 be a perfect little touring bike once well equipped. If the gas tank is big enough to go within 200 miles reach... I might even get one and sell the 6R.

This is why it sickens me that my FZ only gets mid to high 40s on average. I just can't rap my head around why I'm getting the same or worse mileage than big and heavy cruisers/tourers :(

Wonder how the RPMs would compare between the two. ;)

Lets see. My FZ6 feels slow unless I shift around 8K rpms. My V-twin redlines at 5,600 rpms and makes plenty of power at 3K rpms which is the normal shift point. In 6th gear on the highway my Victory is turning about 2,500 rpms at 70 mph. I believe the FZ6 is over 6,000 rpms at the same speed.

Yeah, my FZ6 is turning around 6K @ 70mph and my Tuono around 4K, and that's after going from a 16T to a 15T on my primary sprocket. It was even lower before that.
