Front wheel install help

Help!
I am installing my front wheel with a new tire.
The problem is that this wheel is not spinning while on a front stand.
When I had the calipers on it was kinda binding. It was spinning but not by much. After I primed my brakes, wheel is like it's stuck!
I don't have my rear wheel on yet so I can't ride my bike or anything.
Now some important points:
1. What was the left side of the front wheel (looking forward) is now the right.
Yes, there is a good possibility that the wheel was installed different to how it was originally. Note: the tire is facing in the correct direction. Does this matter? I looked at the service manual and it seemed symmetrical.
2. The brake pads were not closed shut when I installed them back onto the rotors. Why do they seem to be clamped onto my rotors now? How could priming the brakes mess things up? I need to check if calipers are returning. They seem like they are.
3. Could the pads need to be "bedded?" Maybe they need to bed to the new surface of the rotors, especially since they are the rotors from the other opposite side.
4. Is there anyway you can screw up how you put the axle in?
I mean it's in and it's torqued to specs, so that's all there is to it, right?

Huh? The tire was mounted backwards so now your reversing the wheel to keep the tire rotation correct? Ok, so remount the wheel the way it should be mounted and see if it cures your brake rub issue. My guess is it will. Then take the wheel back and have the tire mounted correctly!

Couple of questions;
How do you know the wheel was reversed?
What do you mean by "priming?"

Bedding has nothing to do with your problem. Bedding just ensures you deposit a good layer of the pad material onto the disk. It lengthens the life of the pads and helps adhesion. But bedding will not cure your problem.

Check pad clearance. There should be light drag, but not clamped. Are you sure it's your pads that are keeping the wheel from spinning?

Check to make sure your axle in is right and you have all the pieces on and in the right place as per the manual.

Try pumping the brakes with the wheel in place, then spin it a bit.

Are your pads where they should be?

The wheel is not symmetrical. Install it with the cast-in rotation arrow pointing forward and that will take care of the binding. The tire will need to be reversed on the wheel as well.

You mean the puny arrow in the pic?
I never knew it existed! It's not in the Haynes Manual!
I'll get the tire remounted and double check my brakes.
At the rate I'm going I should have my tires on just in time for next season !

Yep, the Haynes manual is NOT a factory Yamaha Service Manual. Not bad, but not as good IMO.
I didn't notice the arrow either when I changed tires a week or so ago, but I didn't really look for it. When I removed the front wheel I did notice that on the riders left side where you use to find a speedo drive that the surface of the hub was kind of star shaped rather than round. That made it easy to identify when on the tire changer and installing the new tire to get the direction correct.
Yep, sounds like ya' got some flippin' to do. If a Yamaha dealer installed the tire (or any reputable dealer for that matter), I would ask why they installed the tire backwards. They should know or should have asked or checked. They should flip it without a charge.

You can also see that the wheel has slots on the spokes. They need to be facing the rear.

I had a friend install the tires. But it's my mistake. I'll have this flipped at no charge.
I'm trying to do all of this myself. It's my first bike so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I'm trying to not get frustrated though!

It can happen to the best of us OMG WTF. I helped a buddy with this same problem earlier this year. He actually rode the bike a little like that until we squared him away.

Cool! A lot of times that's the best way to learn - roll up your sleeves and go at it. I always figure that I can screw it up every bit as good as someone who I paid can screw it up . Too many times, this holds true.

Well it looks like my friend had it correct all along.
I confused the forward arrow on the tire.
For the record, it's a 3 arrow trident on the top portion of the tire. (see pic)
It's not the stupid f**** arrow symbol on the sidewall of the tire. :Flip: :spank:

I posted a pic I ripped off of the 'net just so other people cannot make the same mistake.
I tell ya! Yamaha really made this thing idiot proof. Once I got the tire facing the correct side, it was easy to install everything (calipers, axle, etc).
I had a really hard time getting the calipers in place and the flip-flopped wheel is why.
That goes to show you: if it's too hard, that's Yamaha's way of telling you that you're doing it wrong!

Anyways, everything seems fine and the wheel is spinning like a champ. Brakes are good too.
