cracked intake manifold anybody? 3 blown gaskets...this is after my muffler literally fell off and melted all 4 O2 sensors. I sure love my ford exploder:rolleyes:

This would be the intake manifold after being taken off, cleaned, and the crack sealed with quicksteel.

Then we got the intake back in and the new gaskets on

And about 200$, 30 hours, and 20 beers later - the final touches...just hope we put everything back together properly haha.

I felt compelled to share my first intake manifold experience with you guys, especially because I was quoted at 739$, and fixed it myself for under $200 (including beer!)

WOO!

I wish I was as mechanically inclined as all of you guys on this board ...

You gotta teach me how you overcome the whole "if I pull it apart I won't manage to get it back together" fear :)

Pictures. Take notes. Have the correct manual with the right procedeure open to the appropriate page, and follow the instructions.........:rtfm::rof::rof::rof::rof:

I'm pretty sure he was goin' for beer...but i suppose that's technically a form of first aid.

And having the right tools for what your doing and other people to consult if you stumble across something that's got you stumped - both are extremely helpful. I never really know if i can put it back together, you just have to do it. It's the only way to learn for yourself.

Is it the same v6 they used to put in the windstar? Those things were notorious for blowing gaskets and stuff.. Huge POS'

I'm not sure if its the same v6 as in the windstar, but every car has its querks. Honda's burn oil. Fords blow gaskets (and heater cores die). Mitsubishi's paint completely falls off the car around 90,000 miles - and have issues with belts.

I love my explorer too much to get rid of her, and it isn't unlike any other car for the exploder to have issues...you just gotta take care of her and she'll take care of you.

I mean really, how could you not love this:

Here's the thing to remember.

It's broken.

If you don't work on it, it will remain broken.

If you do work on it, it might remain broken, but it might also become not broken.

Of course, it is possible to make something more broken. I've done that a few times. But even then, you have a shot at making it not broken again. After becoming more broken, if it cannot be made not broken or even just returned to its original broken state again, remember that the important line is the line between broken and not broken. And it doesn't really matter how far on the broken side of the broken/not broken line something is, because it's still broken.

A thing can be a little bit broken. It can be a lot broken. It can be just barely broken. It can be broken into a million pieces, all of which are also broken. These states vary only on an arbitrary scale that cannot be quantified. The level of broken is open to interpretation by the viewer. Broken is a state defined as "cannot be used" and this is the important metric to remember and track. If you cannot use it, then the level of broken is relevant only when it comes to a repair attempt.

If I ask you to borrow your car, you don't say, "Sorry, the mass air flow sensor appears to be reporting an incorrect value to the engine control unit, causing a lean condition that could lead to detonation and major engine damage." No, you say,"No, it's broken." Neither one of us cares why it's broken. The only relevant fact is that the car is broken, and I cannot use it. And it wouldn't matter to the situation if the car simply had a flat tire, or was missing its engine. It's broken and it cannot be used. The level of broken may be different, but the level of usability remains at a zero. And as we have established, anything lacking usability is broken.

So if it's broken, you can't make it more broken by breaking it more in an attempt to fix it. It will simply remain broken.

completely logical, LOL.

No such thing as a 'little bit pregnant'.......

And last but not least, "9 women 1 month pregnant do not a baby make."
