On the header, I just use metal specific cleaner / wax ("Maquires" and "Mothers") and a "micro" style cloth applied by hand. I tried using a spinning buffing wheel but it didn't seem to work nearly as well as threw lint all over the place (as well as the polish). A dremel with a very small buffing wheel got into the nooks and crannies.
I don't know if steel wool will be too aggressive, and I'm not familiar with Autosol. Maybe use it until your close to the actual SS header and most of the crud is off..
Others may chime in on their results...
