far out! 40000km service makes me nervous!

LOL! Well said Mikey...as you know that was the first reason i lost it with the previous workshop manager!!!

Have already specified Motul 7100!!!

I dont think that one will be tried again! My dissaproval was well voiced...on several occasions!

Don't worry they'll probably take it for a test ride, do some burnouts, steal your motul 7100 to put in their own bikes and replace with with cooking oil or some yamalube (whichever is cheaper and dirtier so probably the yamalube)
Then they will charge you $800 and tell you they had to adjust everything and that you should come back in 1-2thousand k's for a checkup.

My GF just got charged $300 for a scooter service (new oil, filter and trans oil), and they put the next service sticker on it as being in 900km's time. Its also only done 5000kms.
The most worrying part was dropping off the scooter and realising that all the people working at the scooter shop seemed to be on L's judging by the scooters they turned up on in the morning, that and the fact that the shop was full of hideous vespas, cheap chinese crap scooters, and hardly any aprilias.

This story is uncomfortably true in a lot of cases!!! But in this case, i am onto them...been shopping at the shop for ages, and in fact, when they have someone wanting to know more about an FZ6, they have been known to ring me, and ask me to speak to the customer!!!!

As for my oil, if they go near the bike with something else, one i will know very quickly, and two, they better be prepared for a monumental spit if such happens!

If they thrash my bike...no stress, that's how i ride it...so probably a good thing...just as long as they dont crash it!

If you dropped your bike in for a service and the first thing anyone at the dealer/mechanic did was: a apprentice walking up and revving it to redline what would your reaction be?
 
Hmm k, just wanted to make sure my reaction wasn't wrong :P

I took her back for the first service to the dealer I bought her from since my Dad's friends with a mechanic there, but they did a really bad job to be honest and I think the same knucklehead who redlined it probably did all the servicing (badly)

I really miss the old place I used to go too, they went out of business when the recession hit :(

Probably went out of business cause they were too honest, and were not putting 200%+ mark up rates on work, etc...

It is a sad sign of the times, when the small guy keeps getting pushed out of the market, only to leave the big Franchises that charge like crazy, to service the market...

Yea that wouldn't suprise me, they where devilishly (is that a word?) cheap! They where also great for having a talk to about problems or worries with your bike.
The answer was much more often "you just need to take better care of it, change the oil more often, lube that part, etc" than "yea we can fix that for $$$$$$$$$"
They also did good painting work too.

We just had an Accesories shop like that go bust in Adelaide....Always gave you the best price, always up for a chat, alwaqys trying to do the right thing....fat lot of good that did them...they are shut now!

Honestly I think there is a large part of the motorcycling community who like throwing money at things. I mean the nearest dealership now is a Ducati/Triumph shop and if your there you normally get to see people walking in wearing about 10 grand of gear, and organising 10 grand of upgrades to their Ducati (which cost 30-40g)

Its the same as when magazines do these full articles on modified bikes, and the first sentence normally from the owner is "well I wanted something different so I went to my local mechanic and told them everything I wanted and they did it all for me"
Its the biking equivalent of a decaf soy capachino with sugar free fake sugar in it, its a 'why bother'!

This might belong in the rant thread :p

Yep, it's definitely more fun shoppiong around for the bits, and doing stuff yourself, where possible...it's also a lot cheaper, and brings you closer to your steed too..

And remember, the more you learn, or teach yourself, the harder it is for the so called experts" pull the wool over your eyes.

I could have got it for $450 but then I had to buy the Hover feilds as well.
Apparently they tested them out on the police bike in the new star trek movie and found them to be pretty good.
They where a bit pricey though.

You may think the bike runs well for you now, just wait until those valves clearances are fixed up...it'll run like an absolute dream and you may just find your fuel consumption gets that bit better! :)

Yes and apparently, the original Delorean car was an awful car....but regardless, how cool would it be to rock up places in one...up comes the gullwing door, out pops you, high top sneakers, levi's, bat wing jacket, ski goggles....lol!

Yep, well the bike is going in tomorrow morning now.....and i am hoping for a scenario just like you are outlining....especially with the fuel consumption, on a recent trip to PI, my FZ6 used just as much petrol as Mikey's FZ1! Almost identical consumption rates in fact!

Ah, yes. That would be the longer legs. I'm sitting on 4 grand doing 100km/h.

Remember how my consumption got a bit excessive on the GOR and I had to back off for the last 80 km....lol.

At 100km/h it'll take 2 hours to travel 200km....obviously.

At 6,000rpm's (that'd be close for your bike yes?) that's 720,000 revs.

Fuel goes in for half those revs, so 360,000 x about .04 ml of fuel per rev at cruising speed??....14.4 litres.

At 4,000rpm's (my bike) that's 480,000 revolutions. 240,000 fuel squirts.

Bigger donk, slightly more frontal surface area to push through the air......

.06 mls per rev??? That'd be....14.4 litres.

That's pretty simplistic, but it'll do for the job at hand...lol. Obviously the figures are not quite right, but it shows you what's going on.

One of the biggest things you'll notice after the 40,000km service IMO, is the throttle body sync and new plugs. Launch will be sweet:rockon:!
