Ran across this on youtube and it really puts the dangers that we face into perspective.
On a side note a buddy at my college got an R6 a week ago and was in a wreck. A car, being driven by an elderly lady, slammed her brakes on the high way. The R6 who was behind her ran into the rear of the car and was almost hit by the car behind him. Luckily he is okay (full gear thank goodness)

Wow... scary stuff. That video just confirms the notion that all bike riders must keep themselves alert of their surroundings and always ride defensively.

Yes Cars, Poles, Trees, Walls, basically anything solid, will do some serious damage to you crash into them...That's why the race track is the only place to really test your limits...less stuff to hit when you fall off.

Full gear will only protect you so much.

If you don't follow closely enough to the car in front, you will get cut off, if you follow too close they may slam their brakes. Really the RMV/DMV needs to incorporate some information about motorcyclists and inform them of the basics of how we ride. Like when riding in groups they always want to cut in between. I love when it is only me and my husband riding and we come to a stop sign, the cars always want to get in between us. We were at a stop light turning right, the light turned green we proceeded to turn (our right of way) this guy in an SUV takes a left into my path in between us 2, my husband realized the SUV was trying to get into a Dunkin Donuts, so he slowed way down, and stopped right before the enterance. lol I don't get people not having common sense... so they should be informed. I am not saying that we should have special privileges but some courtesy would be nice.

I agree but being informed will not compensate for being an idiot - which somehow even intelligent people manage to do.

What we need are motorcylce lanes like in Taiwan and Asian countries. Problem is there aren't enough of us to justify that apparently. The good thing about riding in America (especially MN in October) is that you know you're going against the crowd when it comes to transportation.:rockon:

as for the first 2, if i ever get into that situation i am going to stand on my pegs so i fly over the top at least.

Ugh. Those crashes look awful. Interesting, from reading Forum mishaps, that nearly all of them are solo accidents. Our greatest danger statistically seems to be skidding out in a turn, not this.

The first video, of the four wheeler rear ending the car, was clearly a dummy. The second two looked like real riders, but who in the heck would do that? Maybe they were realistic dummies?

WTF.......? no matter how safe you are riding, no matter how many gov't standards you follow, no matter how many rituals you partake in, no matter how "safe" you ride...motorcycle = less than automobile. period. this is not a zero sum game. be as safe and careful as you possibly can, and that is all you can do.

do not exceed you limits+pay upmost attn to other cagers+PLAYING IT SAFE=life(hopefully)
