Engine sound - related oil type?

So, what is your advice, ride like this, or do something?

I would ride it! If you want you can tear it down and check valve lash clearance but from what I'm hearing on that MP3 it's a normal FZ6... Go ride!:rockon:

In my case, it sounds the same, but it's not loud as it is on that MP3.
Previous owner (my friend) told me that it sounded like that when it was brand new.

Ride it. I believe that this is a good sound on our bikes. As stated, we do not have hydrolic lifters, so we need extra clearance to allow for the metal to expand. The ticking is normal and I found is a great way to know if your valves are within spec. If they are not making noise, that probably means they are on the tight side which can eventually cause the valves to get burned out. So ticking is good (within reason). As I said, the only time my bike did not make ticking noises was when a bunch of my valves were either too tight or right on the verge of being to tight.

So ride it and have fun...I second the 2bros and some canyon riding...you will never hear any ticking.

I've completely removed the AIS system on my bike as I installed the Autotune. Circuit 1 block-off plates.

While it helps prevent any induction of air to mess up the measure of my AF, it hasn't done anything to the "tick" that I have.

It does clean it up nicely though.

I've scoured for information on the noise and have posted almost on every thread regarding the issue. Have taken it to two dealers for test rides and one indy bike mechanic. All come back from the ride and ask, "Why did you bring this in? It's just the valves/injectors".

So, I've gradually accepted the opinion that so many of you have expressed: It's normal. Ride it and love it.

Sheesh, I think most FZ owners would have a heart attack if they ever rode and heard the engine in a TW200. You think an FZ has lots of noises? Pffftt. A normal, perfectly tuned TW engine sounds like a normal engine, that's about to die, as the valves slap crazily around about to fall out, while the piston slaps them silly, while the crank bearings are in the process of relocating themselves into the oil pan, in small granule form. And it makes it very hard to tell when something is actually going wrong, because you get used to all the "noises". When I first rode my FZ, coming from the TW, I felt like I was riding a silky smooth, whisper quiet luxury machine. LOL

Could be the timing chain tensioner, had the exact noise, replaced the tensioner, noise gone.
