Question Engine seals

It's time i replace my head gasket. I see coolant leaking out the sides and it was obviously mixed in with the oil a little bit when i did an oil change.

I'll likely bench it for the year as I'd like to do a full tear down and replace all the rubbers i can and also do a spacing job.

Looking for suggestions on quality gaskets for an 05-06 model. and any helpful hints for tear down is also great. I have the haynes manual and the official service manual so just reading up and likley watching some videos.

Doing a major, high labor time repair, I'd stick with OEM parts.

How many miles on the bike and was it maintained?

**Definitly no aftermarket Chinese junk IMO..


Also, there's not many exterior seals and it's pretty rare for them to fail.

Should your issue happen to me, I'd replace the head gasket (and don't ride it till repaired) and be done with it.
That is if the engine runs good, (leak-down test / compression test, scope the bore).

Do you have a link for oem gaskets? it's at about 28k mikes. i dont have maintenance records from previous owner.

To my knowledge, Yamaha does NOT sell entire gasket sets.

You'll have to go thru the parts diagram and order separately.

I don't know your exact year or if a Ca model, so go to the site
and look up what you need:

Yes, it's MUCH more tedious but I wouldn't put aftermarket gaskets,
especially the hard to get ones, on the engine...

Stick with OEM…buy once, cry once.

I agree with the above; If there is no need to go into the entire engine, then don’t.

I've had no problems with timing chain cover gaskets from https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/scooterworks

For the cylinder head gasket, I'd probably look for OEM.

Thanks all. I'll get this job done in early September and post back with updates i already order from partzilla but ronayer looks cheaper so I'll price comparison next time. Hoping to get this thing back to mint by the end of 2026

thanks for the good websites. I ended up replacing all with oem and now no leaks!
