Earplugs, Earphones my experience

Screw the law, they were made to be broken :)
I ride everywhere with Challenger custom fit earphones hooked to my I pod.
The real trick is using my I-Jet wilelrss remote! Sweet product, turn it up or down, pause or fast forward / reverse with just the touch of a finger. Complete control while riding.
The remote is attached by the super lock hook and loop fastener from Radio Shack to the top of brake reservior. Works on all my bikes.

I've found that it's hard to hear anything other than wind and my exhaust.

+ 1 on that. Devil cans w/o baffles + Shoei Multitec helmet = couldn't hear my iThingy at all, and that's with the Sennheiser CX500 buds I upgraded to from the crappy Apple ones. I guess if I spent hundreds of quid on the specially moulded things musicians wear on stage it might be different, but I haven't got that much cash lying around.

I just installed some of the cheap helmet speakers they sell on Aerostich (I think they were $15). They work pretty well. I can still hear some wind noise and I am sure I would be able to hear sirens. If anything I probably wish they were a bit louder, but I am happier with them than I was with in-ear headphones.
