In some sense it could just be a way to get free advertising. The first rule in marketing is, "Don't tell the truth" It's hard for us to realize because we are generally held to the responsibility that we should be honest productive citizens but I believe that is not the case with marketing.

I bet in fact that someone is taking one for the team regardless of how it looks. On the inside of the mystery, that person is a company hero. Haha! The way corporations work today and what employees have to do to be competitive is terrible. Negative attention in marketing is sometimes, still attention, and in some cases cheaper than a team of creative minds and an ad campaign.

This happened some years ago and I won't mention the name of the company but there was a corp that sent an employee to a foreign country. This employee ended up in custody of the gov't of that country for possessing something that would be illegal in that country and was being detained for espionage. He was facing at least 20 years. There was no way the corp could not know they were sending this guy in with illegal gear!

I was talking to the president and members of the company I worked for at the time about it and every one agreed, the corp had to know what was up.
I said isn't it interesting though that the name of this corp is plastered in every newspaper in the world. Why...... It's almost like free advertising! Isn't it!?!? Hahaha! :Flip: They made arrangement and did their thing through the back door and the poor guy made it home
