Defected! Now, what to do???

Ok Guys, Aussieboy and me went for a quiet cruise down to the Beach tonight, as it was 33 degree's celcius, and a great day for a ride, and a coffee!

Stopped at the local beach, parked our bikes with a lot of other bikes, and went and had a coffee....came back to the bike, to find a bike cop writing up tickets for all bikes that had fender eliminators...defecting them, which means that you have replace the rear fender (not hugger), and have the bike go to the Transport department inspection centre, and get it passed, and get defect sticker removed!

I have to take the 2Bro's pipes off, as the OEM rear fender mounting bracket, will not fit back on the bike with 2Bro's cans in place.

So as i have given my OEM muffler away, so it was off to Stumbles house to "borrow" his OEM Mufflers, so i can put the rear fender back on, so i can get the bike inspected, and the defect sticker removed.

Now here's the big issue....obviously once the bike has been through inspection, i would like to put my 2 Bro's can's back on the bike, with the rear fender in place, or at least something, which satisfies the law in our state, as to a legal rear mudguard, as they are called here.

Would like to use OEM rear fender, but the rear fender mount bracket wont fit with 2 bro's pipes on (now i know why the pipes come with a fender eliminator, as they dont work with OEM rear fender!!!).

Want i want to know is has anyone here managed to fit a set of 2Bro's pipes, and retained the OEM rear fender...and if so, how???

Im sure you or one of the other Ausi could fab up a bracket to make the OEM fender fit around the 2Bros pipes

i wouldn't worry about the Mudguard, put the OEM stuff back on, get the sticker removed, and then put the pipes and FE back on. how often does this really happen? and how much was the ticket? or was it just a fix it ticket?

No cost...just a fix it ticket....is the first time i have ever been defected....and the worse part about it was...i was not even with the bike when it started to get the ticket!!!!

Very angry about it, as now i have to get it through inspection...off comes the power commander, chain guard back on, etc, etc. As i am sure that once it gets there...anything else which they consider to be outside the law, will get picked on....and my bike aint anything like OEM!

Not that it is dangerous, it is pristine, and has all "safety features, etc, required.

Cant see what the problem is with FE.....the rear mudguard does stuff all anyway.....i know, cause Ozzieboys bike is stock as a rock...and i have been hit by crap that has thrown at me in the past.

Why couldnt the cop spend his time booking all the people i had encountered while riding to the beach, who did not use indicators, straddled lanes, and cut me off, etc!

The reason for it is either, to stop rocks being thrown at windscreens of cars when you're doing 100km/h in reverse,or to bring the number plate down to a better angle for reading and/or photography:disapprove:....ie. revenue.

I'm going to write a letter to find out the exact reasoning behind this ridiculous "law" as it seems to serve no real purpose, except to give cops something to pick up on that is easily visible and universal to all bikes.....ie. easy target:shakehead:.

Today I saw at least 10 people either failing entirely to use their indicators or not using them correctly. Have had 2 people ashing cigarettes in my face out of their windows. Got cut off by a no head turn lane change move, and been tailgated by somebody on an empty 4 lane road. I've seen people pull over to stop and then change their minds and start to pull out again...you name it. All today.

I saw countless :squid: and all the usual bad examples of driving and truly unsafe practices. And here's a cop wasting my hard earned taxpayers dollars defecting bikes for fender eliminators:eyebrow:. Thanks officers. A more useless piece of law enforcement I can not imagine, unless there is a law on tots spilling ice cream on their bibs:shakehead:.:rant:

that's a pain in the butt man. I know how you're upset and all but I don't know that you can fault the cop. the law is the law. even if it doesn't make sense. probably more effective than anything would be to write your local politician and try to get the silly laws off the books. that's probably like pi$$ing in the wind though haha.

sounds like it's a pretty funny situation down there since the people at the inspection place know that as soon as you leave that you'll put all your mods back on... :don'tknow:

Most MOT failures, when people have fitted FEs, is because there is no rear reflector. Motorbike police tend to spot this before the cage based ones as well.

Yes it was a great arvo for a cruise!!!! As for your rant, thanks, i knew you would put into words our shared opinion...

Also, thanks Mike for coming back to my joint, and helping me change my pipes....oh and taking my rear fender away to re do the wiring! :thumbup:

I have two reflectors on my number plate! The cop told me to take them off, cant have anything on the numberplate.

Did not say a word about my lack of chainguard, which i was planning on putting back on in the next few days anyway...will definitely be going on before the bike goes through inspection.

They said nothing about reflectors which, OK, maybe they'd be a good thing:thumbup:and an easy fix. The rule they cite is that there needs to be a mudguard coming down to a point 45 degrees from the center of the rear axle. I suppose somebody could conceivably stick their arm in there at 100km/h (not sure how the easiest way of doing that would be...lol.) Other than that I can see no purpose as the wheel spins top forward and bottom back. Stuff that gets thrown back comes from the bottom and the nasty stuff leaves well before that 45 degree mark..... Don't understand....I just want to understand. Mine's not modified (FZ6 poster boy here...lol) so it's not about me being next.

I'll definitely be writing a letter though. I don't think that cops "cracking down on bikes" (which they are at the moment if you can believe the papers) should be given such an easy target to harass people who are just out for a cruise at the speed limit and stopping for a coffee, stimulating the economy, helping local business and generally not doing any harm. This describes pretty well what we were doing.

Barracuda sell this reflector kits which allows the FE but still meets the law, or you could make one up.

Have seen reflectors, with mounting threads at the Autoshop...will be easy to attach one to base of numberplate, not on it, underneath it.

My Laser's came with a bracket that would allow use of the OEM fender but I installed a fender eliminator so I have it kicking around. Not 100% sure that it would work with the 2Bros since I don't know exactly why they don't work but can't imagine why this wouldn't solve the problem since it creates the rear mount point that was on the OEM muffler.

Photos attached of the bracket by itself, with the OEM fender and then a shot of the instructions showing how it attaches (Fig 17 and 18). It's just hanging around in the basement so it's yours if you want to pay shipping - although it may be faster and cheaper to copy the design at a local machine shop. PM me your address details if you're interested so I can figure out what it would cost. I could also get you some rough measurements if you want to go the make one local route.
