so i recieved my tax refund in the mail.. and after paying the taxes on the car and bike, and paying for the insurance for the year for the bike, and a few other bills...

I have about $500 left over for "things".. so here are my options that i thought of:

1. bike - aparently i missed the part in the service manual where you have to change your coolant every 2 years.. mines been in for 4 with 13k on it.. i asume i will need to flush so any idea's on that?? the only thing i neglected but the bike needs coolant, spark plugs, air filter, lube cables, and a brake line flush and bleed, possible stainless lines but i dunno how i feel about those.. but also probably just do the r6 mod and get it over with..

2. backpacking gear - which doubles in terms of moto-camping gear.. i need a new sleeping bag, hiking boots, actual bag to carry everything in, and i have been debating about a sleeping pad. I really want this to be my off season hobby, so i dont have any issues spending it on that..

3. car - ok, flame on about the car, but its my other baby and i would love to put a better sound system in it. i realize im not in it all that much... but ooo its fun to drive and i wouldnt cry later about spending cash on that..

4. vacation - i have not had a vacation in 3 years other than a few long or longer weekends here and there.. i can get a week and have a few fun idea's (montreal - has a track thats open to the public on the same island that the casino is on, north carolina - cousin lives down there and would be fun to go see him and help him out at his new house, etc..)

Take a vacation. I'm a vacation nut and, naturally, recommend the vaca. It's always nice to check different scenes---get out of Dodge. Your bike would like to get away, too.

If you are married take a vacation, if not take care of your bike and do the maintenace it's not as nice as buying something tangable, but your bike will love you for it.

not married.. im thinking of doing most of the major work and not doing the r6 mod right now, then have money hopefully left over for a moto-camping trip at the start of the season.. thinking thats whats going to happen

Single people need vacations too! I vote vacation - nothing like getting away for a week and renewing your spirit. :thumbup:

My 2 cents.


1. The coolant should be done regardless and isn't that costly so do it.

2. Gear that will be used in more than one hobby sounds like a good investment to me.

3. Sound system in the car. Is this something you could install yourself? There's a number of inexpensive sound options to upgrade to.

4. Vacation- Always enjoyable but the most costly vs. time of enjoyment with your money.

If you shopped around for the camping gear and car stereo stuff, you could probably do 1,2 and 3. Maybe then the extended weekend trips could include some camping or a more enjoyable car ride somewhere. :thumbup:

1. You could probably do everything (except the r6 mod) for under a hundred bucks, and you should.

2. This sounds like a good investment too.

3. If you can already hear your stereo, it works fine. (That's my "old man" response to unnecessarily loud music.)

4. This sounds like a great idea. Maybe you could combine #2 and #4 into an inexpensive, yet adventurous moto tour. I've been wanting to do something like this ever since I read jtankary's (sorry I know that's not spelled right) trip. A few hundred bucks won't take you across country, but it's a nice budget for a lone rider that is camping.

A fifth option might be to throw that money into savings and spent it when you really it. (now THAT sounds like an old man)

1- Maintain the bike, something you have to do.
2- I love backpacking. It really helps you get away from the world. Do it, you won't regret it. This can be your vacation. Who needs beaches when you can have serene nature all around you?
3- I totally get this. I definitely spend more on my cage than my bike (see my garage). When it comes to sound though, I usually pass. Too much weight.
4- See #2. You can also combine bike riding (as you have with the track) with vacations.
