Went out for a Rock Store/Mulholland ride today with a buddy I haven't seen in a while. He recently picked up an 1198S. Beautiful bike. We took it easy mostly, but on one particular straight he opened it up. I thought my bike was quick but he left me like I was standing still :Sport:

Not sure I could get used to the ergos on that bike (even he was riding one handed from time to time). That new 848 Streetfighter however....:drool:
 
you don't buy a ducati for it's practicality or reliability (and to be fair, modern ones are a lot better) :)
 
I kept up with my friends 2003 749 alright thru the turns and short straights....:thumbup:
but it still wupped me a bit on the big end :(
 
Ducati's are a lot like Ferarri's, yeah they're ****ing beautiful but they serve no purpose other than to say "Hey guys look at me! I have too much money!"
 
My friend had an 09 1100 Monster I had to do some mods to.. Really nice looking bike, would wheelie extremly easy but talk about uncomfortable....

That dry clutch was so friggin noisey he put a see thu (slots actually cut out of the clutch cover) it was even noisier. Sounded like it was falling apart ...

No thank you....
 
my next bike will be a ducati 996 or 748, one of the most beautiful bikes of recent times IMO. Love the engine sound, and the clutch noise, they're bikes that definitely aren't lacking in soul.

Maintence costs? who cares when the bike is that awesome, plus it's not that hard to do a lot of it yourself. Plus they hold their value much better than many other bikes.

Er, you meant "Ferrari of Sportbikes," no? (everybody makes mistakes). ;) Like a trophy woman, it demands a lot of maintenance, TLC. Otherwise, you risk being labeled "all helmet, no bike."
 
I am surprised to read all of the anti-Ducati posts here!

My impression is that their reliability has dramatically improved over the past several years (10 years?).

Their new 848 Streetfighter has like a 16,000 mile service interval (read: valves). That is on par with Yamaha's interval.

Really surprised to see the haters amongst the enthusiast crowd. It's NOT a Harley, after all! ;)

That new baby Streetfighter is amazing, IMO ...

I don't think its an anti Ducuti thing, they are very sharp looking bikes (some very, very nice machine work/detail, etc), sound good when underway, but IMHO an air cooled bike that won't hold up as well as most water cooled jap bikes.

The 1100 Monster I rode/worked on, was like riding a Hyabusa, a constant push up while holding the handle bars, laying down for the most part. I have bar risers on my FJR and my FZ and consider both bikes good looking, comfortable and damn near bullet proof.

Their not as fancy or as costly as Ducuti (initial cost and maintainance), but for my needs, they suit me fine.
