Cruiser to FZ6...thoughts?

I went from a Honda Shadow 600 to my FZ6 and don't regret it one bit.. especially when i beat my cruiser friends. I have so much more fun on the FZ and hang out with my cruiser friends and they can care less and can't wait to ride it. Once they do they love it also.
Make the switch. It's like going from PC to Mac. It's an adjustment but you will be glad you did it!.

After reading all the comments I have to chime in because I own honda magna, ninja 650R and FZ6.
First of all, congratulation to "2000 Intruder" for the new FZ. You will love it! A few interesting points I would like to make:
First of all I used to have an intruder. I bought the bike because I like the look, and still does. But after a few months of owning it, I was disappointed at its performance. 800cc twins did not do much for me, specially when I tried to pass I needed to go from 65mph to 80 mph quickly to do it safely. When I twisted the throttle, it did not respond as I expected. To me this could be dangerous if I don't have much time to pass.
Second, reading other's comments it is interesting how, like me, they would consider SV650, honda 919, and then settled for FZ6. I did the exact same thing!
Thirdly, again similar to other's experience, to me FZ6 is very comfortable even with the stock seat. It may look aggressive stance, but once you sit on it, you feel upright riding position and your feet are not as much to the rear as on SV650, or even as on ninja 650R. Like some of you, on a cruiser I would have a sore back with forward pegs and lounch chair position. I think upright riding position as on standard bikes is more natural and good for your spine. Contrary to popular opinion, cruiser sitting position is not really comfortable, at leas not as comfortable as it appears.
I also like ninja 650R, it is quite comfortable for a long trip but I put FZ above it a bit. My next bike would be SV650, and if I put a handle bar riser it should be about as comfortable as the ninja. OK, I think I have said enough.

To those guys who have or have had problems with the sitting position on a cruiser.
I had the same problem on my Intruder 800 and I bought a Pro-Tac riderback rest for it.
I then did 1000miles in 24 hours as well a a 2 week tour of Sweden without any problems. It was like being in your favourite armchair all day. No pain or discomfort at all.

I was comming back to riding after 30 years (I'm 57) my first bike was a '69 BSA 250 Starfire (a standard) It was actually thought of as a pretty big bike at the time. My second was a Honda CL 175 scrambler. Both had standard riding positions. Ater all that time I bought a little Virago 250 cruiser thinking it would be big enough. It wasn't but is was an incredibly forgiving bike for an older guy.
I approached the sport with a great deal more respect this time. I took the MSF Basic and Experienced Courses in my first year and I read both of David Houghs Proficient Motorcycling books. I also subscribed to Rider, Cycle World, and MC News. After a year of riding the little Yamaha and reading everything I could get my hands on I had decided to get a Suzuki SV650 or a Bonneville
I ruled out all the cruisers because you can't stand up on the pegs. If you hit something on a cruiser, you take it right up the keester. It also felt strange gearing up with a full faced helmet armoured (textile) pants and jacket full-fingered riding gloves and over the ankle boots when all the other cruiser-riders I saw were helmetless and wearing what amounted to a uniform consisting of jeans, tank-top or t-shirt with some writing, tatoos, sunglasses, dew rag, POW/MIA stickers. I'ts cool for them I guess - but it's just not me.
Anyway, on a whim I stopped by a Yamaha dealership to see a leftover new 2007 FZ6 that was being offered at a discount. I sat on it and it just felt better than the Triumph or the Suzuki. The dealer handed me the keys and said "take it for a ride". The Suzuki dealer did not give test rides and the Triumph dealer did not seem interested in talking to me at all for some reason. I loved the centerstand and the undertail exhaust. I've never regretted buying the FZ6 but I am interested in the FZ6R for the full fairing and lower seat. Still I like the FZ6 frame and engine better and even though I don't need the extra power I might miss it if I didn't have it. For me its a personal thing but when I'm riding I want to ride - if I want to kick back I don't want to be on a motorcycle at all.
