Critical bolt checklist

I check mu FE bolts every few days too. I was riding a friend's R1 when I saw it shaking a lot...

I most recently found my rear brake resevoir floating...I used some fencing wire to secure it.

I've also lost one of my radiator guard cover screws.

I almost lost a bolt that holds the fairing stay onto the frame. Had a horrible buzzing comming from up there took the fairing off and a a 3'' long bolt falls to the ground. I thought "Oh.. that probably isn't a good thing". Locktite it back on and it's good to go now. Lost a tank bolt awhile back, which is ironic because I was reading a thread earlier that day about how someone had lost thiers and couldn't figure out how. Karma, go figure eh?

I love the Blue Loctite. I keep a small tube under the seat just in case. I've used it on several bolts already (mostly after a mod).

I use TOO much locktite...better than TOO little though.

We have to be careful with Loctite, as a co-worker reminded me, there's the blue one, and there's the red one.

The blue one is to keep the screws/bolts snug,
The red one is permanent!

I check my caliper bolts at least once a day. I grab my foot pegs and wiggle them. I check my handle bar bolts, and look at my fork clamps. I check my front axle crosslock bolt, and my rear axle nut. Thats all I am obsessive about though.

FWIW, the ONLY bolt that disappeared from my new FZ6 just after I took delivery of it was the left upper caliper bolt....the one that secures the caliper bracket to the front forks. The caliper was dangling on the bottom bolt, with barely a full thread securing it. I don't even want to think what might have happened if the caliper had fallen off completely.
Yep...you can bet your boots that I check my caliper bolts (and others) before I swing my leg over my FZ6. Every time. :thumbup:

Thanks to everyone contributing to this thread, I have just checked every nut, bolt and screw within reach and all were tight. ('05, but just 3100 miles):thumbup:

Got stopped at a breatho ( blood alcohol testing stop ) the other day. The cop checked my rego disc. Saw him reach out to look out of the corner of my eye. Am guessing that he turned it slightly to make it easier to read which loosened the bolt, which gave the chain/mud guard extra movement which loosened the front bolt. Two days later I heard my chain guard rattle over the driveway. Stopped and found both bolts gone. OEM $7 here...lol. Won't let that happen again.
