Corbin seat question??

Those of you that have the corbin seat for your fz, the spot where your butt sits, is it more scooped out and form fitting than the stock.
With the stock seat I don't like the forward sloping angle that tends to slide you into the tank. I'm looking for a nice pocket to sit in or a decent flat area thats not sloped.

I have an 06
I'm 5'7 and love the bike and am setting it up more for cruising/touring.

This seat is not available in the states but someone out there looked at the pics and sanded their stock seat down to look the same. The seat in the pics are mine and it is great for touring. I have ridden 900km in a day, 2 up, without any problem for either of us. We did 3500km to France and back from Denmark without any problems with the seat.

They say the Corbin is very slippery and slopes too much from back to the front. I am sure one of the Corbin owners will put you straight.

If you want to have a go at modding your seat give me your E-mail and I will take a load of pics and measurements and send them to you. Why spend a fortune when you don`t need to?

Don't own a Corbin but the ones I have seen are hard and their service sucks according to several Corbin seat ownesr I know.

I've had the Comfort Seat by Yamaha and the Corbin Gunfighter seat and, IMO, the Corbin is far superior. As Red Wazp stated, the Corbin is quite firm. When I first got mine I thought the "hardness" of the seat would be a problem. However, after the first ride, I found that it's VERY comfortable. I think the firmness actually help with fatigue. It doesn't sound like it would make sense, but that's how it works for me.

The Corbin I've got is the "carbon fiber" pattern, which most people will tell you is quite slick. I found this to be true on the first few rides on the seat, but after about 5 or 6 decently long rides (200 mile days), the slickness seems to wear off and I didn't have any problem sliding forward under hard braking. People have said that the regular leather pattern isn't nearly as slick as the "carbon fiber" pattern, so if you're ordering one from Corbin, you may want to go with that.

The Corbin does slope forward slightly, although IMO not nearly as much as the stock seat. It definitely has more of a "cup" on the portion where your butt sits. I found it to be a huge improvement over the stock seat.

I bought mine from another member on SBN who'd only used it for about 50 miles, so it was basically brand new. The point being that I haven't dealt with Corbin directly so I can't make a judgment on Corbin's customer service, although there have been enough negative comments made that I'm thinking there might be something to it.

Another thing to remember is that you can send your Corbin to them and have them modify it so it better fits you. If you got one and thought it needed to be more scooped out in the seating portion, you've got the option of sending it to them for modification.

For comparison sake, on the stock seat, I could ride for about 30 minutes before the "butt burn" became unbearable and I had to stop for a minute. On the Comfort Seat, I could go for probably an hour before it set in. By contrast, on the Corbin, I can easily ride for 2 or 3 straight hours before any sort of fatigue sets in. The difference is night and day, for me anyway.

I have a Corbin with dreaded Carbon Fiber leather. Over all the seat looks great, looks count right? Comfort, I never had a problem with the stock seat and the Corbin is much firmer. The CF leather is very slick and I haven't seen any improvement on that front at all. I would strongly suggest a different leather. I'm okay with the slope, could be better for me, however my wife can't stand the passanger part of the seat. Between the slick leather and the increased slope over stock she is always having to push back during breaking, and she "creeps" forward during riding. Now she loves the backrest, very supportive and increased perception of safety. The design is first rate. I plan to have the seat recovered with plain leather and flatten the saddle so there is less slope. I'm going to have that done locally so I don't have to pay shipping both ways.

I love my corbin seat.
I also have the carbon fiber leather.
I dont tend to be concerned with others opinions of what I do soooooo..... I cut heavy duty drawer liner to the pattern I wanted for the rider portion and passenger portion. Sprayed it down with heavy duty contact adhesive and stuck it to the seat. I dont move at all unless I want to even under extreme braking, and even on wheelie day. My passengers do not slide into me, or towards the back at all.
I know I am not right, but function is my main concern.

Another added benifit of the drawer liner. It has lots of small holes that keep your butt from being plastered to the seat when you sweat and it prevents the sliding againt your clothes that causes monkey butt.

Basicly it looks goofy but works great. If I were concerned about looks I would have a harley. LOL LOL I like to ride.

I have a Corbin also. The CF leather was too slippery with my Aerostich pants so I had the CF panels replaced with standard vinyl. Huge improvement.

It is dished and a little wider.

I've got a corbin with the carbon fiber-look (or is that corbin fiber...) cover, too. Bought it used, so like the CCHOUSEKY, I can't comment on the customer service question. And my experience regarding the hardness of the seat and how long before butt burn set in were exactly the same. Though the corbin is much more firm, for my behind, that's exactly what I needed.

It's a fairly common misconception that a softer seat will be more comfortable. Not always true.

The shape of mine isn't drastically scooped. Perhaps we're talking about the same thing, but using a different term. Mine seems to have a more pronounced crown where I sit. I've taken some pics but I'll have edit again in a sec...

Mine is somewhat slick but not to the point of distraction. It seems just about right. I wear ballistic/textile pants. They move enough to allow me to shift when and where I need. Not sure how it'd be with leather but given that I like to be able to move when I want to move, I think it'd be fine.

I don't ride with a pillion so can't comment on such questions.

Hi Tim, I have the Corbin gun fighter on my 07. It is a bit more scooped out in the rear than stock. It's a very firm seat and Corbin says after a 2000 mile break in it will be fine. But just out of the box, I found it more comfortable than the stock seat on long rides. As far as the slick leather, I haven't really noticed. I wear either jeans or Dianese leathers when I ride and I don't slide around. However, I'm not a real aggressive rider.

I recently purchased a Corbin Gunfighter for my '08. I don't have a problem with sliding around. The seat is firmer than the stock seat but it is definitely a higher quality product. So far I'm pleased with the Corbin seat. A lot of people have reported bad customer service with Corbin but that is the exact opposite of my experience. The day after I placed my order online the guy who was building my seat called me and asked me if I wanted it to be customized. He was very nice and I got my seat in 2 weeks. If you want it to be lower or narrower, etc, I'm sure they will accomodate you.

I have a Corbin and am close enough to thier Hollister shop that I did a ride in build install. I knew I wanted a "wider" seat on the back 1/2 for more support to my back side then narrow down at the tank.
All went very well, I sat made adjustments, sat etc... picked my type of leather "light alligator" w/accent piping.....I rode off and not a mile down the road Hated It....Slippery and sliding foreward. I figured it was me and rode it for a week but it drove me crazy. I called them and they said come on back which I did. They were excellent in customer service, an I mean excellent!
This time I not only sat on it but also did 5 test rides. Ultimately the secret was a substantial dish on the back 1/2 and a substantial "hump" next to the Tank. My backside is planted now w/just enough space to be able to inch forward when I'm in jamb mode but no more sliding unless I want too.
The seat is hard but extremely comfortable. It seems just gets better every mile.
