Cold Startup Idle

I've got a 2008 FZ6 which I bought brand spankin New Last year and have about 8,000 miles on her.

I have Scorpion Exhaust installed and things seem to be running fine.

But I noticed this summer, that when I start the bike it will initially idle at what it idles at when warmed up at temp of 174 1100 rpms.

When I first bought the bike it would always run at about 2000 rpm for a few minutes and then back down to 1200 rpms while it was warming up. Like it had a automatic fuel injected choke of some sort *my first fuel injected bike*.
I've sync'd the throttle bodies 3 times in those 8000 miles.

It does not do that warm up cycle any more, just curious if something is wrong or it is just broke in now and that is how it will normally operate now. I have no Diagnostic codes showing and i have been thru the Diagnostic mode with everything looking fine.

When I put my 2 Bros. exhaust on my warm up was different. Seemed like it was a little leaned out. Once warm it seemed ok. Then I got the Power Commander, put the stock map for the FZ6 they have and it warmed up better. Later I did other mods and then dyno'd the bike.

I tried a K & N filter and it made the bike idle kind of Loppy I guess, sounded good to me and I really like how the bike ran, but I decided to go back to running stock air filter with the Scorpion Exhaust since I did not have a power commander. Initial cold startup idle with or without the K&N filter this summer was 1100 rpms. I still have my stock pipes but they only go on when I go for inspection. I guess with the bike and Scorpion cans broke in the idle is what it is without a power commander. Scorpion cans installed at about mile 300.

I have an 07 with Scorpions. They did not make a difference with the higher cold idle, no change(5700 miles currently). I do have my hot idle set at 1000k(lower than recomended). My cold idle is approx 1200 RPM , thats at approx 75' outside/humid...

I'd try disconnecting the battery and reset the computer. If that doesn't work, I wouldn't worry about it, I'd rather have it run slower when cold.

My Yamaha 4 stroke outboard (FI,150 HP) does not high idle when cold. It has a regular idle (6-700RPM) hot or cold....

Shouldn't be an issue unless your jumping on and absolutely revving like crazy, maybe just give it an extra minute.

Had not run it for a few days and today I started her up cold.

Idled at 1500rpms and once she hit about 160degree temp rpms dropped to 1000 rpms. So I guess it's working the same.

Mine turned 1900 today and did something different on a cool start. It usually idles at 1200 but today it was at 1000. AND SMOOTHER. Had the 800 mile Dealer checkup but THAT didn't change anything. We'll see tomorrow if anything seems diff. I would like a NEW GEARBOX THO!! Every time I think I got it the transmission says "I'll do something different now just to make you look like an *******"!!! Then 3 minutes later it lets me speed shift up with nothing but a CLICK!!!

Mine runs at 1500rpm till it hit about 45deg before it lower down to my hot idle at about 1200prm.
Just don't understand why some of you guys has cold idle starting at 2000rpm?

Probably just depends on the situation since its basically an auto choke. I'm only guessing but maybe at lower temps it revs a bit higher.
I'm pretty sure mine revs more in the 1700 range than the 1500 range when I first turn it on, but its not a huge difference.
Does anyone have their normal (warmed up) idle higher than 1200ish?

I reckon it's probably the ambient temp. If I park mine in the sun in Summer it's up to the cold running temp already 42-45c degrees-ish.

As soon as the weather cools down it will more than likely go back to running on fast idle until it flashes the first temperature reading on the LCD.:thumbup:

It depends on the ambient temperature. Around here these days, it's not more than 3-7 degrees C in the morning, and the bike revs cold around 2500 rpm's. When it gets warmer, it goes down to warm idle, in other words 1300 rpm
