Clutch in Bike Dies

I have an 2007 model and the above mentioned screw is there and it DOES NOT HAVE A LOCK NUT. There is a spring underneath it to prevent it from backing in/out on its own. If yours has a locknut, your on the wrong screw.

It is adjustable with a medium tip, fairly long phillips head screwdriver. The outside (as I recall) of the adjuster screw is almost star shaped with many points (not a round head). Its set in from the frame about 3-4". I prefer my idle at 1,000 rpm but turned it up to 1300 when doing the last throttle sync. In SW Florida its amost always in the 90's with humidity, however I've never had a problem with it stalling (set at 1k RPM). 900 is a bit too low...

As stated above, located on the left side of bike, as you sit on it, between the frame and the gas tank.

Well after messing around on Friday for a while, I took the tank off and used a vice grip to turn the screw. It finally moved! Put the tank back down and set my idle speed. On Saturday morning I went to start the bike, and no fast idle when cold!! WTF??!!! So I go and check to make sure I did not knock something loose, but everything looks ok. So I decide to disconnect the battery for 30 seconds. Put the tank down again. Bingo!! everything is back to normal!!!! I had no idea what disconnecting the battery had to do with my fast idle speed, but oh well, everything works now. 1800 rpm cold, and 1200 rpm warm.

There was some form of thread locker on the adjusting screw. I wonder if the dealer did that when they replaced my head last year. Sometimes I wonder what they are thinking...

I'd have to agree that somebody put on the locktight aftermarket. I just went out to have a look at my 2007 and the idle adjuster turns very easily as it should. Has the spring as mentioned, no locking nut.

Good thread and thanks! My '08 started to have this problem and noticed the warm idle is around 800-900. Made the quick adjustment to 1k idle and seems like it's not as boggy anymore. Haven't rode it around yet but hopefully the problem is resolved.

Oh, the idle is easily adjustable, very loose in fact.
