Cheap mod!!! 36 cents!!!!

As I bought my FZ6 for traveling, touring and a little back roads curve cutting. Mostly for the long distance hauls. As I noticed that there were not a whole lot of places to hook up the bungee cords for my luggage. Looking for some aftermarket loops or eye bolts I noticed that some could cost up to 12 bucks and they were made of plastic. So I went down to the local home improvement store (Menard's) and bought so eye bolts that were 36 cents a piece. Here is what I did.

The eye bolts I bought are 3/16 x 1 1/2 in that was the smallest that I could find.

I drilled the holes (3/16) in four places under the tail section. It all depends on where you would like them so have at it. Then I noticed that the threading on the bolt did not go all the way to the head of the bolt so I found some 3/8 washers lying around the garage and with the thickness of the underside and the washer combined the nut would tighten to the point where the eyebolt was secure. To make sure the vibrations would not loosen the nut I used a lock washer in between the nut and the undertail section.

After I buttoned everything up here is what I came up with. Hope I was some help to those looking for a easy chaep fix to figureing out where to hook you hooks :thumbup:

you could also use a nylock nut on one or both sides of your eyebolt. nylocks have a plastic ring inside that deforms when fastened to create a very shake-resistant bond.

Very nice! Did you think to repaint the metal where you drilled the holes? (i think its metal) that is a very prone to get wet area and I wouldn't want it to rust out..... so now its one dollar and thirty six cents! good thinking! :thumbup:

One question - with stock exhausts, do I need to be concerned about the heat of the cans and the bungies running over them?

Nice idea. It looks good.

If anyone else does this, keep in mind that the taillight and turn signal wiring runs just above where the front left screw eye is located. Don't just go in there with a power drill without getting the wiring out of the way first!

the stock can has a heat shield cover over it so it doesnt get hot so dont worry bud, it wont melt your bungees

I have rode 350 miles straight in one day and had no problems with melted bungees. Also 2 days after I did the mod I rode 1200 miles in a 4 day period and had no problems. :cheer:
