Buying an FZ6-Couple ?s

I'm still getting used to the power and I've had my 09 a couple of years.. I, too kind of dream of the 1 but everything is relative.. The 6 does everything I need it to do and more.. I think I'll keep another year or 2. I moved up from a 07 Ninja 650 and it was a good fit for me. You're gonna have a blast dude.. Welcome and be safe.. :thumbup:

Bought it from a guy in Santa Monica and rode it home to the SFV up Pacific Coast Highway and through the canyons back to the Valley. The first mile or two I was caught off guard by the short 1st gear and snappy throttle response but got comfortable with it after a few miles.

First impressions are the weight difference (I have to apply more pressure on the bars to get it to turn) and the least little twist of the throttle will get the bike moving quick are the things I noticed most.

Congrats! If it has stock sprockets first gear is not that short...it's actually very long for a sport bike. :thumbup:

In my opinion, it's pretty short for a sport bike. I've ridden FZ1, Gixxer 1000, Ducati 848... all have taller first gear (FZ1 being infinitely taller than FZ6) :don'tknow:

I don't remember where FZ6 is in 1st at redline, but I think it was something like 60mph, no? On FZ1 it's near 100 and redline is 12k.

Took the bike out for a quick spin last night & HOLY CRAP! it's an absolute missile after 8K rpms (At least compared to a 250).

I should have been more specific. The FZ6 has a pretty long 1st gear for a inline 4, 600cc sport bike. :thumbup: Anything larger than 600cc will have taller gears.

Oh ya glad you like it...now just imagine if you would have gotten a fz1 and applied the same amount of throttle....things could have got real hairy real quick, glad you decided to go with a 6

I have had my 2006 FZ6 since it was brand new. I have never felt like it lacked power. The FZ6 is faster than necessary for any kind of street riding and even the best riders cannot use all of the performance offered by this bike on the street. Personally I bought a bike to save a pile of cash on fuel while having a blast doing it! The FZ6 gets 45 - 55 mpg. You are going to loose at least 10mpg average on the FZ1 and that assumes equal riding style.

Don't be afraid to travel across state lines to find one! Everything is overpriced in CA.

If you are in CA buy a CA bike. It is difficult to register a non CA bike in CA. DefyInertia can add more to this. CA VINs are different from the other 49 states and the DMV will pick it up.

Sooooo I'm going to check out an FZ1 tomorrow. Am I completely nutz?? I'm 39 yrs old, have the MSF and several months of riding under my belt and I try my best to not be stupid on 2 wheels. For any members on this forum that have, or have had experience on an FZ1, is this a bike that will get me into trouble in a heartbeat or is it fairly docile unless I really get on it?

To Mr. FZ Bandit, I was replying to this post. Your damn right he can go out and buy any bike he wants, that's what is great about America. :thumbup:

It's also what's wrong too. As a new rider (only several months) he is not ready for a sport bike. I have seen where new riders both young and old get in over their head by buying too much bike- Harley, sportbike, dirtbike - it doesn't matter as much as a experience.
It isn't always about saving a buck when making a smart choice.

I have a cali model fazer, 2007 red, i have aftermarket exhaust on it right now but with the stocker you can get past emissions in CA w/o any problems- 6600miles...let me know if you are interested
