I like the "choose a safe trafic free place"
My battery died in the middle of NYC. It was fun to have my wife stoping the trafic so I could bump statrted.

Few things worth mentioning... with a fuel injected bikes, we can't bump start a completely dead battery. We need at least enough juice to start the fuel pump.
And depending on your height, might be a little tough to get enough momentum straddling the seat. Gotta be very careful not to let it get away from you(clutch out and in really quick), but I run along the side of it. Get it started, stop, and then hop on.

a stupid question. Why in second gear? Can we do it in first gear?

You don't have as much 'leverage' to overcome. If you use second to turn the crankshaft instead of first, the 'longer' ratio reduces the braking force of the engine's compression.... you're less likely to skid the rear tire. Third reduces it even more.

Each gear you go up reduces the amount of rotation the crankshaft has to provide to 'drive' the wheel. The motor spins slower, for each gear ratio you go up.
