Yep, it's our fault, no doubt. We decided not to heed the warnings of the men who founded this country. Democracy is bad, at least for the minority (truest definition of democracy - two wolves and a sheep deciding on lunch). We were suppose to be a republic, but it seems no one really understands that.

AFTER an unequivocal experience of the inefficiency of the subsisting federal government, you are called upon to deliberate on a new Constitution for the United States of America. The subject speaks its own importance; comprehending in its consequences nothing less than the existence of the UNION, the safety and welfare of the parts of which it is composed, the fate of an empire in many respects the most interesting in the world. It has been frequently remarked that it seems to have been reserved to the people of this country, by their conduct and example, to decide the important question, whether societies of men are really capable or not of establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force. If there be any truth in the remark, the crisis at which we are arrived may with propriety be regarded as the era in which that decision is to be made; and a wrong election of the part we shall act may, in this view, deserve to be considered as the general misfortune of mankind. We are on the very precipice of being led by politicians controlling our country by pandering to the dependent class at the expense of those dwindling few who cling to the dream of every man; self determination and self reliance in a free society and economy. Never has there been a system of government like ours was, where the dream of achieving was kept alive by the promise that you could keep what you create, and never has the opposite system been effective, fair, and without strife. There is no perfect system of government for imperfect people, but there is a better model as described by the American founders. We are not taught the principles of our founding anymore, and so it is no wonder we have lost our way. I fear what has to happen to learn enough to return to our roots. I have invested 30 years of blood, sweat, and tears into my business and have employed a couple hundred people whose families have depended on our business success in a system that mostly rewarded good and proper management and a quality service. I haven't the faintest idea as to how to proceed. It is alien territory and I'm actually afraid. God help us.
