WOW what the heck happened?

I was doing a complete front end brake job on my truck. I was using the bike as transportation to the auto store. I sat one of the calipers on the seat while I opened the top case, and I guess it leaked a little fluid. I had it well wrapped and in a plastic bag, but somehow it got out.

The couple hundred saved on my brakes will be used for new side covers. At least done of it.

Thanks. I put new pads, rotors, calipers and flushed the lines.

Yep, brake fluid puts paint remover to shame. I had a towel in hand to wipe spills the instant they happened when I did a flush on my old bike.

I swear the drop was on my tank for less than half a second...

Yea, it's a yamaha blaster. I've done a lot of work to it, and it runs great.

A quick question you might have an answer for?
I'm confused but one side cover looks like custom paint job while the other looks black?

IME, unprotected lacquer paint is very vulnerable. Where as enamel can handle a bit more chemical abuse, followed by hardened enamel such as a base coat of color and clear coat of 2 part hardened enamel.

If I had to guess instant contact would only take out lacquer so quickly so I'm curious what you know about the final top coat as far as what it was.

The paint is stock black and red graphics on both pods. You seeing only the bottom of the damaged one that's why they look different.

I didn't realize the brake fluid had leaked onto the paint so it had a good 24 hour soak on the paint. If I had realized I would have cleaned it up right away and all would be well.
