Disappointed .... if i had the chance to create a brand new motorcycle range, with the most powerful engine in it's class, surely they could come up with something that looks better than deformed? Perhaps it will shine, perhaps not. But whatever results they get, i promise would be more due to the rider than any superpowers the bike may have.

Same goes for ABS, nice, but on a track bike? I'm certain all the maufacturers could, why haven't they? ABS is most needed on a slippery surface, so they'll have rain advantage. Nice, but really does seem silly.

I've heard good things from guys who have ridden it, i wouldn't doubt that, but compare with kawa's new zx14, in terms of innovations, and consider how much better the zx14 looks.

I don't see it as a streetbike, any more than a zx10, its a thoroughbred racer.

"Why ABS?"

Because it's a safety feature. BMW touts it as a "race" ABS, meaning it's less likely to come into play on the track, unless you stupidly grab full brake, which in that case it could save your life. They say the equipment weighs less than 6lbs.

Most manufacturers don't include it because of price and consumer demand.
However, Honda will include ABS on EVERY model by the 2010 model year. It's only time before every manufacturer follows suit.


At first I found it hard to believe this BMW could compete with the big four jap makers because of price. BMW's other supersport models cost $20k+.
However every source indicates that BMW is going to price it close to the big jap bikes, and estimates are around $15,000. It's still expensive, yes, but it'll sell.

BMW's are for people with padded wallets, they always have been. But it's nice to see them try to make a competitive supersport.

The two BMWs I would really like are the K1300R and the HP2 Sport, both look more outrageous than the S1000RR.

Looks sick. If I had the wallet, I'd get one ... but again, it's too much bike for me too lol .. nearly 200 horsies on a bike not much heavier than ours...

Symmetry is boring, love the asymmetrical look! And while I don't think the Ducati 'style department' is losing any sleep over it, I like the look overall.
Looking forward to see if the tech lives up to the marketing hype.

Sorry, did two different people design the fairing side panels? That just looks wrong.

It's like they replaced one of the fairing panels with an eBay purchased panel from a slightly older model.

Im also a big fan of its looks. In a few years when they work out the inevitable transmission issues (almost every beemer has had em so im gunna guess this one will too) itll be in my stable replacing my FZ6 to sit next to my KTM 990 ADV (next summer ill get it). If you know bmw at all you know they think outside the typical design and bring something that ALWAYS turns heads even if the people think its ugly itll still get attention. A tidbit bout the ABS is if you grab alotta front brake itll apply the back ones to a degree but if you use the back brake it will not apply the front. So its the perfect setup for the track.

BMW didn't reach lap 9 at the WSBK this weekend.

It's the same reason i won't buy one.
