Biker down

Crashed my bike today. Was going around a corner getting on the freeway at 30-35mph and hit some gravel. Front end lost traction and down I went. Thankfully I was wearing full gear and walked away with a bruised knee and a little road rash on my forearm where my jacket sleeve pulled up from the rocks. Bike still runs but front fairing/headlight assembly is messed up pretty good. Thank god for sliders though as they saved my engine. So the good thing that came out of this is that now I can say that Shogun sliders definitely work, and I will never have another thought about whether or not to wear the gear.

Anyone out there that hasn't put sliders on their bike yet, do it! They are well worth the cost. And remember ATGATT, luckily I only have minor road rash, but it feels like nothing else and I can't even imagine having it over a larger portion of my skin.

Should have the bike fixed up in a month or so when the cash comes in, and I will be out on the road again as soon as I heal up

boy thats a scary feeling when you know you have lost control and can just brace for impact ain't it? good job on the gear. it can save you for sure! glad you are ok.

Every time somebody goes down people seem to be primarily concerned about the rider. Well, what about the bike! Should'nt this be the primary, if not equal, concern? When I went down on a SF street last summer, the first thing I looked at was MY BIKE! (maybe that was because I knew I wasn't missing a foot or something) Seriously, I would rather take a road rash, torn jeans/bruised knee over fairing, etc., damage! And what about FZ6's FEELINGS? (our bikes have them, you know)

Good thing on wearing full gear. It seems like 90% of the crashes happen due to gravel. Damn gravel I tell ya.

Glad your ok and you had your gear on. I cringe every time I see someone riding in shorts and flip plops.

I saw a guy the other day in 5 o'clock traffic on a gsxr, no helmet, no gloves, dress shirt and pants, loafers, steering with his right hand and holding a cell phone up to his ear with his left. That boy won't be with us long at that rate.

The bike is a lot less painful and cheaper to fix than you are. Keep riding safe bro!

Glad you are OK, sorry about the bike, it sucks to have things like this happen, especially when you were just doing the right things....I agree with the comments on the gear, glad you were wearing yours!

BTW...are you going to get another fairing or go Nekkid?

The worst part about reading this thread is looking at how happy and proud you look next to your Fizzer in your avatar. Get her fixed up back to new and get back on.

Thanks for posting. I can always use the reminders -- watch out for gravel and wear the gear...

Sliders are such cheap insurance, they're really a no-brainer.

Post up some pics of the damage. Are you going to put it back to stock or go naked?

Thanks all for the support! We are trailering the bike down to my garage later today and I will take some pics of it to post. It will need a new fairing in front, headlights, rear grab bars, tail light, and the rear brake lever, but other than that she doesn't look too bad. Have to take her in to get the forks checked to make sure they didn't get messed up too. I haven't decided about going naked yet, but I'm definitely looking at the option

I was wearing all firstgear. Jacket was the Venture AT and the pants were the HT Air Overpants. The coat didn't really take much damage but one knee on the pants started to burn through but never got through to my jeans. I will post some pics of the gear too when I take some of the bike.

Again thank you to everyone for all the support and good wishes and I know that I will be a better rider out of this. Just gotta get my baby back up and road worthy again :thumbup:

Once again, because full gear was worn, another rider is able to walk away from a crash.

Thanks for posting. Let this be a reminder for all of us, # 1 cause for a crash for a rider is from cornering. You have to slow down before entering the turn for these reasons: check the radius and slope and last but not least....surface condition.

BUMMER about the bike. I hate to hear of a good bike getting gnarled (unlike some poorly maintained and even more poorly ridden gixxer :shakehead.
