Best way to sell a bike?

Having a little trouble selling my 2007 FZ6 locally. Anyone have any suggestions on where to list it?

I've had great sucess with craigslist. I'm sure you've tried it but if no, that is the way to go. Sold 2 bikes, a rockband drumset and a lawn tractor. All took less than 2 weeks. Look around at other adds for FZ6 and smimmilar bikes to get the proper price range and it should go.

I found that putting pictures up on photobucket and then inserting links (hypertext style <img>) so that I have larger / detailed pics really helps.

Keep the text breif too. Longer, story book adds often get glossed over. People like pics.

Be very honest about the bike. Point out not only what is right with it, but any details about what isn't right as well. An honest ad will sell a bike quicker.

Great to be honest, but in a listling like craiglist, a few pics and brief description of the bike (model, year, color, miles) followed by a phone number is best in my experience. Listing out a bunch of flaws on paper makes them seem exaggerated. "Why is this guy writing a book on this chip in the paint if it's so minor?" By no means be secretive, it's just best to disclose that once you've made contact with them so you can talk them through the issues, which usually allows you to place the proper emphasis on the severity of such flaws with the added benefit of voice intonnation, etc.

As sixty says, too long and people gloss over. I've had listing where I've placed a great long description and had no hits on it for weeks, changed it as mentioned and sold it the next day. Perhaps a coincidence, but I still believe short and simple is best when there are so many ads to sift through. Give them a reason to call you for more info.

I tend to change my bikes a lot and usually have two or three. I have used cycletrader.com successfully in the past for some of my bikes. However there is a charge for the Ad. CL has also worked well for me.
I agree with the above, brief comments, good photos and a phone number, but one other consideration is do you have it priced right. I just helped a friend find a mint red 06 with under 2K miles and one mature owner for $3,300. It was on CL for at least a couple of weeks at around $4K. Last Dec I picked up an 08 with 7k that had been dropped and needed a new fairing for $2,300 asking price was $2,900 firm. I got a mint complete front end for $250. So I have a nice, but not perfect 08 with less than $3k in it.
NADA. KBB and EBay sales history and this forum gives some indication of current values.
