And you're right about the doctoral robes. I live a couple of blocks from UC Berkeley. Every year around this time I see folks walking around in robes with all sorts of different colored hoods and sashes/accoutrement (I didn't know that it was a hood, how perfectly Masonic and mystical...)

Haha, I was talking to my brother this morning (he's getting an MFA from OSU - brown collar, red and silver lining) and his wife is getting her Doctorate in Music, so she gets to wear some pea**** orange thing. Both are not overly attractive, and I kinda feel bad for them. Like my mom says, always research the graduation attire before choosing the advanced degree so you're not stuck wearing something ugly every year at graduation time. I think mine looks pretty nice.
