Hey gang,

I'm new to the forum, been reading and learning the last few months. Lots of great info on here. Here is my problem..

I want to replace my bar ends on my 06' but the bolt heads on both sides are stripped. Any tips to get them off?

Any help would be great!

WD-40, a bolt removal kit you can buy from like home depot or lowes, a gentle hand and lots and lots of patience.

Hit the bolt with WD-40 and go have a beer (or a soda). When you come back, you'll use the reverse drill bit with the T-handled wrench to drill a new hole. Don't use anything else, tapping is half know how, half mystic art. You really need to feel what's going on, so just the included wrench! If you're really lucky, they'll come out while you're drilling. You want a bit that's about half to 3/4 the internal diameter of the threads. Or the biggest you have.

Then use the reverse tap that goes with that drill bit on the T-handle wrench. Make sure you lube it up real good before you start. It'll bite and start to tap new threads reversed. If you're only sorta lucky it'll come loose while you're tapping.

If you get all tapped and no dice, there should be a bolt that fits the tapped threads. NOW you can use a real wrench to turn the inner bolt. But if you get to this step, WD-40 the crud out of the threads as best you can. And try not to strip it again. If you followed my advice on 1/2 to 3/4 the inner diameter, then you should have one more shot and that's it.

If you do not plan on reusing them then I am with the pipe wrench idea. Or you could use a strap wrench and do no damage.

BTW: I think they are put on with some lock-tite and it does take a bit of ooph to get them loose.

my recollection is it's a pretty big hex in there....10mm I think?
wrong size allen key must have been used, with a big hex like
that it's damn near impossible to strip it out....at any rate, yeah
I agree with the loctite comment, can break the bond with heat
but that's not a great idea considering what you're working on,
the drilling out and using an extractor is probably not gonna work
well in this case unless you are willing to drill a very large hole and
use a large extractor, trying this with a small hole and small extractor
will probably result in a broken tool stuck in there and you'll be worse
off than when you started...I'd go with the low-tech pipe wrench, a good
one with jaws in good shape (teeth not rounded over yet) good luck

Thanks for the advise. I'll start with the pipe wrench/channel locks/strap wrench approach and go from there!

No disrespect, but are you sure you are looking at the correct bolt head?
