This is the third motorcycle accident in 2 weeks I've read about, resulting in the rider dying. This one (although you can't make the words out), he lost control and hit a pole. Pronounced DOA.

Its a shame - so heads up you guys. Cagers still don't see us out there, and for a lot of us, the weather and road conditions still aren't too great. Careful out there guys, I don't want to read another one of these any time soon.

i had to tow a motorcycle on saturday. he was doing at least 55MPH and a lady in a cadillac pulled out in front of him. the bike was pretty bad and the sheriff that was out there said he shattered his knee and had other injuries but was going to be ok. some people just don't pay attention

Was he going 55mph in a 25mph zone? We'll never know, but that is the most likely scenario. There aren't that many roads I know of where you can legally go 55 mph while there is also the potential for someone to pull out (from a side street I assume) in front of you. Going way over the limit has a couple of problems: can't stop fast enough; cager can't detect your speed, sees a tiny thing a long ways away, and thinks it will take longer to reach. Read somewhere that you should slow down to 35 mph at intersections if possible and if it looks iffy, as your stopping distance at 35mph is half that of the stopping distance at 45mph. Probably 1/4 that at 55 mph.

Keep your head on a swivel and always be thinking "what if". Look for escape routes and never ride under the influence of dope or booze.

It's that time of year for riders to come out of hibernation and drivers to start getting used to sharing the road....so thanks for posting this reminder.

no he was on a highway with lots of cross roads. the speed limit was 55. he was doing the right thing from what they said. she just pulled out in front of him. didn't see him. he almost avoided it but got clipped in the leg

You've obviously never rode anywhere in the midwest. Here in Kentucky, nearly all the roads are 55 mph with driveways and side streets. Kinda crappy to just assume the poor guy was in the wrong, without knowing any details, don't you think?

We've had 2 riders killed here recently, both by cagers not paying attention to the road. Another young rider was paralyzed just the other day when he lost control, hit a guardrail, and severed his spinal cord.

Agmom98 is right...it's that time of year when the riders finally get out and the cagers have to adjust to them being there. It's amazing what a difference you can make in your own safety by just being aware of your surroundings and anticipating trouble. Everyone please take a moment before you climb back on the bike for the first time and remind yourself of how dangerous this is and how aware you must remain. Then go enjoy yourself, responsibly! :thumbup:

There was a motorcycle incident less than 2 blocks from where I live. The rider was coming down a road with a 55mph limit and someone turned left in front of him. He lost both his legs. The cops marked everything with orange paint while they did the investigation. I ride through that intersection every time I go out and it reminds me how I have to pay attention because the other drivers don't.

Wasn't on M-37 was it? At a meet-up last weekend I heard about a guy who got his leg pinned pretty badly (I think he was riding a Harley). Apparently the bike was totalled, but he's gonna be ok.

Wasn't on M-37 was it? At a meet-up last weekend I heard about a guy who got his leg pinned pretty badly (I think he was riding a Harley). Apparently the bike was totalled, but he's gonna be ok.
