I absolutely couldn't be more impressed with either OSO2K or the setback plates he's so graciously designed and had fabricated for the members here. I sent payment for the plates on Thursday morning (2 days ago) and received the plates today. Amazingly fast shipping!

And the plates...well, these things are works of art. Seriously, if you didn't know any better, you'd think these were made by a huge corporation with tons of R&D money. They're perfect, look great, and work even better.

I read a ton of info on the best way to install them (thanks to Hellgate, afpreppie04, and Mattcosta7 for doing a bunch of legwork so it's easier on the rest of us.)

The brake side, as previously stated, is easy. I went Hellgate's route and used 2 washers between the setback plates and rearsets in order to move them out just a bit wider (not that it's needed on that side, but I wanted both sides close to the same.) I also turned the stock washers around so the rearsets would "hard mount" to the setback plates and not use the rubber mounting method used by the factory.

I was worried about the shift side, but after doing all that reading, it turned out to be a breeze. I ended up using 3 washers between the plates and rearsets on this side to give me just enough room for the shift rod to clear the frame. Unfortunately, it was still a little too close for my liking, so I used yet another of Hellgate's ideas and added a washer to the end of the shift lever where it connects to the rearsets. This worked perfectly and now the shift rod clears both the rearsets and the frame easily.

After a little adjustment, I've got them set perfectly. Unfortunately, I didn't get to take them for a spin, but hopefully I'll get to do that tomorrow or Monday. I think I'm gonna love them!

Now, on to the pictures!

Right after the setback plates arrived:

And how they look coming out of the package:

Nylock nuts I used on the installation, between the setback plates and rearsets:

And the button head bolts I used...these look much better than standard bolts:

The stuff needed for installation. A note here...I ended up needing 15 washers (not the 10 you see here). 1 on each mount point of the setback plate and the frame (4), 2 each on the brake side between the plate and the rearsets (4), 3 each on the shift side between the setback plate and rearsets (6), and the 1 on the shifter itself.

Sorry about the quality of the shots. I had to use my iPhone because I ran off without my camera. I'll see if I can't get some better shots with the camera later.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask, and thank you again to everyone who's done a writeup on these and to OSO2K for providing such a quality piece!

Signal, they were $95 shipped and got to me in two days from California to Kentucky. As far as turnaround goes, you'd have to check with OSO2K to see if he's got some left from this 2nd run. I know he asked who would be interested and was doing a limited run (maybe 12-15 sets?), but he might have some left over if someone didn't take their set.

I think he did two different colors in this run...obviously black and also silver. I can't say enough how impressed I am by the quality of them.

Here's the original thread, but if you look at the last 2-3 pages, it'll have info about the recent run (the first part of the thread is about the original run in 2008).

If you're interested in a set, drop him a PM and see what he says.

*edit* I just realized that OSO2K updated the first post of that thread to reflect the new run. That's also got the links I used to help me with the installation.

Thanks man. Great info. It looks like you recently installed them, but do you plan to ride every day with them or use them for track riding?

Looks great! Now you just need to powdercoat the rearsets themselves to match. I love my OSO2k plates, I haven't taken them off since I installed them, and I ride the bike daily.

Wow the new version looks great! Nice job with the install. I really like the photo from the back of the bike that shows the difference in height of the peg.

If you guys are dragging peg this a great solution at a reasonable price.

Yeah, I just installed them yesterday, so I haven't had a chance to ride with them yet. The plan is to just use them every day, though. It's pretty easy to remove them if you only wanted to use them at the track, but I don't think it'll be any big deal to use them on the street as well.

Thanks afpreppie04! As I mentioned in the first post, I've gotta give you and others big props for the previous write ups. It made this a snap for me. And now that I realize how easy it is to remove the rearsets, I'm definitely gonna get them powdercoated this winter.

Did you find it necessary to remove those rubber grommits in the holes on the rearsets? I know some like wavex have said they didn't have any problem with leaving them in, but I know they're a bit of a pain to remove. Just wondering what others experiences are with that part of it.

Thanks for the review.

Good stuff! This is a great way for people to save money. Make sure you post it in the vender reviews! Looks very clean.

7 sets of black & 3 of silver left. I can usually get the sets in the mail within 24 hours of receiving your PayPal payment. Then, they're at your door in 3-5 days (I've had international shipment to UK get there in 5 days).

So how was the first ride? For most, it changes how they feel about the front end...especially if they have yet to the R6 fork swap.

Believe it or not, I haven't been able to get out on them yet. It rained yesterday and today isn't looking great, but probably tomorrow after work I'll be able to get the bike out for the maiden run. I'm definitely looking forward to it!

Oh, and I've already got R6 forks, so that should be good. I assume you mean when people have installed these without the R6 forks, it's just exacerbated the feeling of the crappiness of the stock forks? LOL.

Forks and hand position (handle bars vs. clip-ons) come to the forefront of your consideration.

Clip ons, especially now that I've got naked, is something that definitely intrigues me. If I can ever find a good set of the Blackbird clip ons, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger and try them out. The only issue I have is the risers on the top triple. I couldn't stand having those things sticking up like that. It would be great if I could find a triple that's already had the risers removed!

You might consider an R6 triple tree (upper & lower triple, steering stem, & crown nut). I have a complete triple tree but I've been too busy the last two years to try to mate it. I may do that soon. It would standardize a ton of stuff (go to a 120x60 front tire, get rid of fender tabs & axle spacers, clip-ons are easier to find, clutch and brake also have more options). Or I just may get the bike on the street. We'll see how much energy I have after my wife delivers at the end of July. The other thing I'm considering is swapping out the swingarm for an R6 swingarm. It's actually a cheaper conversion than an upgrade to 07+ FZ6 swingarm.

+1 on the congratulations, Louis! That's awesome!

Hmm...now you've really got me thinking. Do you have any idea what's involved in adapting the R6 triple tree to the FZ6? And I agree that it would standardize a ton of stuff (not to mention I could do the purely cosmetic mod of putting a blue R6 front fender on there).

I've actually considered doing the 07+ FZ6 swingarm swap since I think it's a direct swap (I think?) The R6 idea is pretty intriguing, though!

What are the benefits of a modified setback plate? From what I read and understand, you can swap the shift pattern to 1up 5 down - as well as reduce scraping pegs.

Is there anything I am missing here?

You absolutely can do both those things, but I did it for another reason. Since I've converted to naked and changed to the FZ1 bars (and soon, probably the Suburban Machinery bars), I wanted the more sporty position for my legs. These put your feet more beneath you and up higher. I was in no danger of scraping pegs (not yet, anyway) but just from sitting on the bike, I can already feel the more forward and down position. This should help a lot with body position in the twisties. I've also read others reviews and it seems by having your feet more under your body, it's easier to shift your weight off the seat side to side.

Hopefully I'm gonna get the first test ride in tomorrow, but if not, then it's definitely on Wednesday. I'll be sure to report back with my impressions.

Oh, and I failed to mention this in my first post, but I kept the standard shift. I'm so used to it by now that switching to GP shifting now would really screw me up, but I may try it sometime just for the fun of it.

Here's some better pictures. I actually remembered the camera this time! Oh, and yes my bike is dirty...I haven't had a chance to clean it since the last long ride when the roads were damp.
