OK so I was about to close the deal on an '04 Acura RSX S-Type, but the deal being on hold at the moment, I am looking around at alternatives...

Right now I narrowed it to either an RSX, or an Eclipse, but would like some feeback from the car gurus out there (I don't know **** about cars)...

My budget is $10-$15k and for that I can get either an '06 RSX S-Type with 50k miles on it, or an '06 Eclipse with about the same mileage.

RSX S-Type
=> 2.0L, I4, 210HP, 2800lb, manual 6gears

Eclipse GT
=> 3.8L, V6, 263HP, 3500lb, manual 5 or 6 speeds

What do you think?

I never liked eclipses, but the bigger motor will have more torque, but the car does way a little bit more.
The honda would probably be a lot more fun and drivable, while the mitsubishi would be good for commuting. Well both would be, but the bigger motor in the eclipse would be a little bit better.

Owning a scion is a lot like playing golf. You only do it because you hate yourself too much to do anything better.

I voted acura. Not sure how much the cars are used but you might want to check out a Subaru WRX sti. If it were me I would be looking at a 350z!

I voted for the Acura. Sure, it has less horsepower and torque but it's also a smaller/ more nimble car than the Eclipse GT. Build quality on the Acura should be better than the Mitsubishi.

Dealer support should also be better with the Acura.

I heard the eclipse is kinda clunky so I'd go for the Acura in that respect. I think the eclipse looks cooler though, especially if you can get a convertible. Definitely check the 350z, I hear lots of good things about those.

All that being said, I'd get an American muscle car! Maybe a cheap Corvette?

Well, you know how I feel, as I own an 06 RSX Type-S. I checked your spreadsheet, and I think you should focus on the Acura as there are many available right now.

Let's race!

Hell ya thanks guys!

It's pretty unilateral for the RSX it seems like... good, it was my initial choice too :D

I looked at the WRX too, but they're usually more expensive for the kind of mileage and year I am looking for...

Aren't the 350Z expensive as hell? Will have to check them...

Thanks John, I don't know what I had done the first time around when I looked at auto-trader, but this time it returned quite a lot of them! And some amazing deals too on '06s!!
I will probably start calling tomorrow... would you be up to come check out a couple of them with me if they're around Buena Park?

When in the market for a car a few years ago, I test drove an RSX and researched an Eclipse a bit. Key criteria for me was some sort of sporty hatch back so I could get a bicycle in the back. The RSX would have worked - very flexible inside, nice interior. I didn't ever drive an Eclipse, as I was turned off by numerous reports of poor handling. That was several model years ago, so who knows what it is now.

I also looked at the WRX, but as with the Acura, it took high revs to perform well and I don't like driving cars at high revs. Ended up with a lease-return Lexus IS300 station wagon (er, Sport Cross in automobile terminology). That's a pretty rare vehicle, but a perfect fit for me. Nice roomy four-door and very big space in the back when the rear seats are folded down. As a V6, it's performant at all rpm. I think they stopped making those around 2002.

In that case you should get used to this view because that is what you will be seeing a lot. :D

I had a 2006 eclipse but I got ran off the road and flipped it a few times. The car does really well in a crash and it is really fun. its also a chick magnet.

I am thinking yes. I dont know what the go for to be honest but I would guestimate around 20k for the mileage and year? that is a total guess though.

you dont want a cheap corvette......

350z's are usually around mid 20's depending on milege...
