Day 1, With the exception of a 150 mile stretch on I-30 it was all on state & county roads. I stopped in Dublin, TX for a Dr Pepper made with pure cane sugar at the oldest remaining bottling plant. Unfortunately, I forgot the camera while I was there. I had originally planned on stopping at Pine Bluff, AR before dark, but I got a little turned around and ended up near the state college there, so I pressed on to Stuttgart. As soon as the sun disappeared behind the horizon, the bugs came out. It soon looked as if I was I was flying through a cloud of teensy yellow bugs. I was moving at a pretty good speed, but I finally broke down about 10 miles outside of Stuttgart and changed helmets. I lucked out because as I pulled into a closed gas station to swap them out there was a local sheriff's car camping out there for speeders, and I was the ONLY thing on the road.

The next day, after sleeping really well and sharing the room with the bike, I made it through Memphis before breakfast. After too many miles on the slab, I broke off to bypass Nashville, but unfortunately, got lost in Brentwood due to the lack of highway markers, and started getting overheated due the fresh blacktop, repeated stops and u-turns. I finally ended up stopping for a break and after attempting to get directions from someone at a gas station who barely spoke English, I broke down and got on the I-65 to Nashville and eventually back on track. I ended up running into another person on a 2005 FZ6 which happened to be the first person I've ever seen riding one in person. After getting off the slab again, I found the best curvy mountain roads I've ever seen! (though I haven't been looking long) By the time, I made it to my planned stop at Jellico, TN I was exhausted from all the great twisties. There, I met an interesting girl at Hardees that really liked my motorcycle. ;)

Day 3, the bike didn't stay inside that night though I was worried about it the whole time because it was single sport bike sitting at a motel packed full of angels. I had some breakfast and started out on the mountain roads again. All was going well until I hit the KY state line. The roads suddenly turned terrible and luckily there were no cars around until I made it into a town. That wasn't much comfort because I think every single driver on the road was abso****inglutly crazy until my route curved back down into TN and then into the tip of VA. I didn't have any back roads planned in VA because I knew I'd be tired by then, so the rest of the trip was on the slab. While on I-81, I noticed around 40 speed traps and a few cars with flat tires, but never once did I see a LEO helping out someone even by setting out flares. I was pretty pissed about that. Anyways, the rest of the trip was uneventful, and I arrived back just in time to drop in on a friend's party, and woke up at his place the next morning.

Looks like it was fun though.

Yes you have to be extra careful in Eastern Ky. Its a strange area.

Nice post, thanks. I'd love to ride some of those mountain roads you have in the US.

I drove a rental car in the Boone - Blowing Rock - Grandfather Mountain (NC) area last year, and in the Asheville NC area, and that was awesome. I'd love to go there again on a bike.

Man, is it time to flush the bugs out of the radiator or what? Did almost 1,000 miles in eastern Kentucky, western Virginia, north eastern Tennessee last August and most of it was as back road as we could make it. Met some great people and camped at some beautiful places. You can get small towned real easy if you are not careful passing through. All in all a beautiful journey. Glad you had fun.

Good pics of a very pretty bike (at least the bugless version) :justkidding: I actually like the looks of the silver engine better than my blacked out 2008, but I do like some of the new tweaks they did on the instruments.

Great shots! Thanks for sharing!

Did you find out who the other FZ6 belonged to? Tell them about the site? ;)

Man! The bugs are like varnish on the helmet!

How did you hold up after several days in the saddle? Throttle wrist problems?

Nice pics too, thanks.

My throttle wrist was fine because I made a throttle lock out of a peice of rope before I started, but for some reason the pinky on my clutch hand has been hurting since the trip. I think it has something to do with the fact that it hangs off when I pull the clutch in. My butt was fine for most of trip because it went numb after 2 hours of riding each day. :D

If you look at the one of the pics after the bugged up helmet, you'll notice a green rag stuck under the windshield. I kept it wet on day 2 and 3 so I could wipe the bugs off my helmet any time because I forgot to bring a bottle of detail spray with me.
