Need Help ABS warning light sometimes blinking after using brakes - no error

Hello people!

I have a 2009 S2 that generally runs like a dream. However, sometimes after I brake a little harder or soft but longer, the ABS warning light starts blinking in even frequency. It resolves on its own when I restart the bike, and as far as I can tell, the ABS itself is still working when that happens (At least at the rear wheel. I did not manage to engage the front hard enough on purpose because I'm a chicken). The is no error code that I can see (in diagnose mode 61). I have a few things installed on the bike: Heated grips, USB charging, gear indicator, LED indicators and LED rear/brake light. The indicators came with resistors already in them, I installed a fitting relais, and the frequency is normal. The rear/brake light works as intended, and because I thought the error might have something to do with it I installed a resistor there as well that works fine on another FZ6 that I know of. However the, error light still comes on, never just when driving but always after a hard or prolonged brake. What I tried so far:

- Resistor on rear light (no change)
- Cleaning the ABS sensors (no change)
- Reading/deleting error code (none shows up)
- Testing ABS (seems to work)
- Flushing the brakes (dealership did this, no change)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Remove the tail led light at install a filament one, at least until you resolve the problem, so you will not have any doubts about it. Also check your battery, abs is quite demanding in good power supply. Clean the battery terminals, the abs motor fuse contacts, the abs motor relay contacts etc. Use a battery tester to measure State of Health, charge it with a battery charger, or even replace it if its not good. Despite of the specific problem, you should always change the brake fluids every two years with ABS flushing procedure (you test it while changing the fluid, the procedure is in the service manual) so any debri is removed from the hydraulic unit. Also you should trigger the abs (front and rear) occasionally for the same reason. Or better use the testing procedure if you do not feel confident doing in on the road. Good luck.

My FZ6 does not have ABS, but my FJR does. I have the same problem on the FJR after installing an LED light with a builtin flasher. Since the ABS module gets its signal from the brake light voltage I believe that the varying voltage in my blinking LED tail lights are causing the ABS light to come on. I do not know whether this will actually impact the ABS function.

On my FZ6 ABS there's a test facility that can trigger the ABS function.

Also, of course, you can go out for a ride on a wet day, get up to eg 20mph, then stamp hard on the rear brake to lock the wheel at which point you should feel the ABS cut in.

Is the 'test' function used to cycle the ABS pump so that you clear the dirty brake fluid from within? If s the FJR has a similar function.

You mentioned that the LED flashes with even frequency. According to the service manual:

If it stays on 1sec and off for one sec, it's a defective brake switch or the rear wheel was spinning with the front wheel stopped ( for example putting a gear while in center stand to lube the chain).

If it stays on for 0.5sec and off for 0.5 sec it's a low voltage issue ( --> clean the connectors, check battery, magneto, voltage regulator)

As far as I can see from the Haynes Manual, it's to check the ABS is functioning by you holding the brake lever and pedal whilst the pump pushes back against them.
