about catalytic converters

I live in a state, where there are no emissions laws. I was wondering, instead of buying a new exhaust system, would it hurt to just cut out the CAT? Would there be harmful reprecussions? There has to be some good horse power to be gained by removing the most restrictive part of the bike.

What is the legality of removing the cats on this bike. I know it is a federal offense and a huge fine to remove one that is supposed to be on a car.

I have never heard of anybody getting hit with it but its still there.

I just wondered if our bikes need to have a cat to be legal.

Don't get caught without one in any of the western states, a fat fine will be the result. Plus there are high flow cats out there that flow better than the equivalent length of straight pipe. Better performance and environmentally friendly:thumbup:

As a mechanical engineer with a specialty in fluid flows, I'd love to know how that works. (And I know it can happen in "tuned pipe" mufflers on model airplane engines).
