A question about heat...

So when you removed the fairing, did you notice better engine heat dissipation?

I just purchased an 05 fz6 and will take possession in a couple of days. Feeling so much engine heat was new to me.... and on this string of 100 degree days in NC its a bit overwhelming.

I just came from riding a naked 300cc bike for the past 11k miles. I never felt any engine heat on that bike.. I don't know if its because a smaller engine puts out less heat or if if its because the engine heat was blown away.

I'm sure the 300cc wasn't an inline 4, was it?
I too noticed more heat after riding Ninja 250 (parallel twin).
To answer your question, no.. the heat is exactly the same in naked form.
Stick out your knees for few seconds when you're moving along to cool down, but if you're in heavy traffic, you'll definitely feel a bit toasty (between the engine heat and undertail exhaust).

The heat is the same, with a fairing, it tends to draw the heat up from the engine area into the upper area where the fairing tends to make a calm area of air movement(where the rider feels it). A larger windshield makes the situation worse...

Larger sport tourers, Concours, FJRs (especially the first Generations), etc are considerably hotter to ride as the plastic out front blocks fresh, cool air from the rider. A shorter windshield during the summer helps, most large bikes have forums that have some fixes to the heat (re-directing it). I've done all the heat fixes on my gen I FJR. It helped alot but you still have a 145 hp engine running (or almost 100 hp on the FZ) pumping out heat. The aluminum frame picks up the engine heat and also dissipates that as well..

As a side note, the FZ6 is not bad at all on heat compared to the S.T.er's
My KLR 250 (stock, naked) is my summer beater and is by far the coolest to ride(temperature wise).
