88' FZ600 - What Oil

Hi All,

Need to put new oil in the bike. Not had the bike long, so this will be the first refill. I have no idea what I should be putting in here... Can someone advise what would be safe to use in an 88 FZ600?

I personally would put in any any motorcycle specific oil (10w40) or better yet a semi or fully synthetic oil. I prefer Motul 5100 semi synthetic.

DO NOT use energy conserving oil.

The bike is air-cooled, right? The spec is probably 20W-40 or 20W-50. M1 makes a nice 20W50 full synth for bikes. Castrol, Motul, etc. should also have something.

I will note I had a small seal leak issue on my FZR600 when using M1 MX4T 10W40. The spec oil for that bike was 20W40 or 20W50 (high temps). But I would think that 10W40 is too thin for aircooled anyway.

Yeay, That would be my best guess. The full synthetics are pretty tough oils though, the additives packages are pretty good these days. The main worry I would have using the thinner synthetics would be that you start getting oil leaks (shift input shaft seal, crank, etc.).
