I got 60 mpg twice in one month recently. Once while riding with "the girls" - we never once went over 55 mph. After that ride I had to go out by myself and get a little speed and a few twisty roads out of my system. Second time was when I was using the bike for commuting to/from work.

I do "short shift" as a habit. I am 5' 4" and around 115 so I think that helps. However, I do use the 87 octane gas. Normally, I get around 55-56 mpg. I have gotten as low as 48 when riding with the guys though - guess I don't have to explain the difference in riding styles. LOL.

So far I haven't really gone on any long rides, and I'm averaging 35+ per gallon. I mostly drive in town, to and from work. Sounds like I need to go on some rides lol!!

I have seen 63+mpg a few times, and consistently get 50-55mpg. Basically it's all about throttle control and using 6th gear whenever above 40 MPH.

Yes, I said 40 MPH. Although this motor can be revved quite high it will easily pull along level ground from 3500 RPM.

87 octane fuel, stock exhaust/intake, 60K miles.
