Need Help 2005 Yamaha FZ6 Intermittent Speedometer

Hey guys, I’ve had a 2005 Yamaha FZ6 for about 2 years now, everything has always worked great except the gauge cluster. The RPM, check engine light, neutral, etc.., odometer, and time are all fine but the speedometer and only the labels for the fuel and temp gauges are very intermittent. 90% of the time only pieces of the numbers light up. At high rpm’s it sometimes all comes back but that is rare. Put in a new battery last week but that seemingly hasn’t changed anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum Nick. Since it’s the speed reading and some segments of the fuel indicator, it’s likely a failure on the printed circuit board such as a cold solder joint.

For the sake of good order, I’d take a look at the gauge cluster connectors for signs of corrosion. If you have contact cleaner go ahead spray the open ends. If you get lucky this might solve the problem.

The Instrument cluster has an internal CPU that includes the The LCD driver, As Gary said, it always good to preclude your trouble shooting with checking connectors.
Likely an internal failure. There are a couple of ways you can go on this. People have opened them to find problems but I've rarely heard success stories on this route.
You can also replace the unit with the S2 version. The S2 version would require one jumper wire for the backlight because of the S1 harness backlight supply.
You can also use the FZ1 version cluster that has a different red line on the tach but why would you be shifting at the edge of the galaxy?
