2005 FZ6 What to look for?

Hello, I'll be looking at a used 05 Yamaha FZ6 tomorrow and I would like to know what to look for? Any bike specific problems i should be looking for? The bike has 3500 miles on it. Thanks!

Looks exactly like mine. I bought mine about 7 months ago, it had 3700 miles not a scratch anywhere on it and I paid $3800. The $5,000 price seems a little steep to me. If you can get it for around $4,000 or so it would be a pretty good deal.

Check for scrathes on the pegs. There were 2 FZ6 sitting side by side when i got mine. Both were 05s around the same miles and close to the same price, but one had a fender eliminator and had had the stock turn lights replaced with smaller ones. I was going to get that one then I started really looking the bike over and noticed that it had been downed. The only indication of this was the underside of the right foot peg and the underside of the crank. They were completely scratched. If i were to just stand and look I would have never seen this so make sure you get down and look everywhere.

not sure about pricing on the Islands but just take a good look around the bike and if all looks good then it should be good.

The only thing is the steering head bearing is sometimes considered under made for the bike, but it has been a long time since anyone has mentioned having a problem.

other than that these are great bikes and work very well for the price.

Ask if the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) has been replaced. I believe the '05 has a recall on the TPS. The vin plate should have a notch in it if it's been done. And 5k for a '05 is pretty steep. I paid 5.5k After ttl off the dealership floor for my '06 new. I think the kbb value is like 3$3.5k

I totally agree with what has been said on this thread. $5K is a lot for a 3 year old bike, plus they made major cosemetic changes in later models. Unless this is the absolute bike for you, I would keep looking unless they wanted to drop the price. However, if this is the bike for you, then do what makes you happy! :rockon:
