120 MPH, Evasion? HA, HA, HA!

A second patrol unit arriving about that time was unable to use his brakes to stop after the chase. He used the other cruiser to come to a halt, seriously damaging both cars.

:rof: This sounds like something out of a bad comedy, only it's so much more funny in real life.

Good thing no one was hurt. I've seen those signs warning of aircraft enforcing speed...never actually heard of it happening, though.

mmm the police in WA here have a FLIR camera on the police chopper
allowing anyone to be tracked at anytime of teh day :(

"Gallisdorfer said authories were aided in nabbing the suspect by a high-tech camera system aboard one of the CHP's fixed-wing planes.

The equipment, called the Wescam System, is highly sophisticated, capable of tracking high-speed vehilcles on the ground with precision, and detailing speed, distances and street names during a pursuit, Gallisdorfer said."

Sounds like cool technology. From looking at this website it seems it's the same technology the military uses.

Thanks for sharing the article.

We run something similar in Alberta in the northern part of the province due to lack of police. We send up a light aircraft and they help tail speeders and then the cars can catch them at specific points. One weekend helped catch 32 speeders ranging from 30 to 50km over.

Biker was a dumbass. Hope he gets his license revoked for good.

I talked to a motor cop about guys fleeing on bikes. He said, "They might outrun the cars, but they never outrun the Bird [the helicopter]."

Sounds like some of that high tech aircraft traffic enforcement budget should be shifted to brake maintenance for the cruisers.

Yeah (lol) But, you know, I wonder what REALLY happened (regarding the CHP cruisers being wrecked). How do brakes completely "fail" (if that's alleged to have happened). There's still the emergency brake. Could it be that as, fzme remarked, the cop was too hot to stop? How do you come in so hot that you lose control of your police cruiser? I'm not buying that the brakes "failed."

This is one of those stories that can bring a smile. Guy thought that he was free & clear after wild 120MPH CHP chase; he even set up bike on stand inside kitchen. Ha, ha, ha! Obviously, not somebody on this forum. (sorry, no pics but the story alone is worth it)

Sacto 9-1-1: Sacramento motorcyclist arrested after fleeing at speeds of 120 mph, CHP says

So...... he's obviously a part of the 65% without proper credentials......

Amazing how many stupid decisions don't prove to be fatal.:spank:

so this yahoo is going to do what? How long do you really think he'll spend behind bars, before he's back on the street?

This 3 minute video shows the magnificaiton and stability of the systems that FLIR fielded some 3 years ago. Pay attention to how seamlessly the video switches between color, and IR. No jiggles, jitter, loss of focus.

This one is aimed at the civilian market.......
